  • For me, Master of Orion and MOOII got me into turn based stratagy games. God, those games were good. I played civ I a few times, but didn't really get into the civ francise until civ III, and while I had fun with it I was never all that impressed. Civ IV is the first game that comes anywhere close to being as good as the MOO games (and without my computer locking up every single turn like always happens s in MOOII, heh)

        • I played civ 1 back on my first Amiga back in the day. It was on 4 disks and whenever you went to the diplo screen it asked for every single disk in a particular order

After that I've played most other civ games save for CIV II expansions or Alien Crossfire. I also thoroughly enjoyed Colonization and would have loved for that concept to be developed further.

          • Always being a MAC-user I never had many games to choose between. Civ seemed to be the perfect choice, so when Civ 2 finally came to MAC I bought it. It spoiled my sleep for years to come. Now Civ 4 is doing the same damage to me ...

            • Playing a pirated version of civ 1 on my uncles computer. Got so addicted I bought a copy and spent a few years putting phalanxes on coastal mountains tops to kill battleships.

Then Civ 2 came out and glued me to my computer for quite a while.

              • I played the prototype Civ1, developed back in the year 993AD, just before the Y1K problem wiped out all the computers in Europe and plunged the western world into a thousand years of darkness.

It was MOST heartening with Sid came along and resurrected this venerable classic....all hail Sid!

                        • heh, i just remmebered, in the pc version if you failed the anti-piracy question it disbanded all your military units.

                          • It did? I'm too young to have played Civ1 when it was in sale, but I did get an abandonware version years ago, both DOS and Windows version. IIRC, you had to restart the game or revert to an older save if you didn't know the answer to the tech question on the second try. I'm positive it was like that in the Windows version at least.

                            • Civ2. I took a look at all the units in a review column somewhere and knew I was looking at something different, something special.

                              I enjoyed colonization as well.

                              • I started with Civilization, the original. It was the first game I bought for my own money (pocket money then). As you might suspect, I'm hooked ever since. Oh yeah, thank you, Sid.
