I'm sorry, but I have played hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of civ3. It was a fantastic game.

But since Yin started his negative fibe BEFORE the game was being released, the game was doomed to fail on poly. Do you know that on CFC there are many many people who prefer civ3 above civ4? (I can't understand that, civ4 is clearly superior, as is civ2 superior to civ2)

Civilization 3 got everything that civ2 and civ1 had, and more. And it did it in a very well ballanced way. The dishing civ3 just doesn't do it for me.
Well done. You've rescued Solver by posting something so much more ridiculous that I am actually lost for words. And that rarely happens.

Wow, you're giving me a lot of credit there, Cyber! I only wish I had that much influence...

I think you were pretty influencal in those days indeed, yin. You were the list-master. You came into a conflict with Firaxis over the 'the list threats' that were moved to the firaxis server forum in a flawed way. (I even backed you up there )

@Solver, well, with 'fail' I mean, 'fail' in the minds of many civ1/civ2 players. I think that Apolyton might have been a bigger civ3 crowd then the civ4 crowd is today

@DrSpike, I'm sorry that it's ridiculous that I loved civ3 and think it's one of the best games ever made.

I can accept different opinions from mine on subjective issues.

But whether or not Civ3 failed on 'Poly because of Yin's early comments is not subjective. It is just an absurd comment of the highest order.

First off Civ3 did not fail on 'Poly anyway. Early on there was a vibrant community here (and don't remember CyberShy or you actually being a very big part of it). But leaving that to one side for a second and assuming it to be true, placing so much weight on the comments of one person is very silly indeed. No offence to Yin but by the time Civ3 numbers were at their peak the majority of posters would not have even known who he was.

No, that part is fine. You see that's subjective and I'm glad you loved the game so much. I liked it a lot myself, despite it's flaws.

The negative fibe around civ3 even before it was released was huge. And yin played a huge part in that. It didn't help either that they cutted MP shortly before the release.

With 'fail' I was using huge words indeed, what I meant was that the game failed to get a positive expectation before it's release.

It's not really important if I was or wasn't a big part of anything, but just for the record, in those days we had the "Apolyton Negative Club" (or something) of which Yin was made president, and I was the president of the Realistic club. (with even custom made titles by Markos). It was all tongue in cheek of course, but hey, I was there :P

Not to forget that I was the topic-editor of two of the "The List" topics.

But hey, I can't remember you either
That's only to blame to the fact that I mostly read the posts and forget to see who posted it. (but now I won't forget about you :P)

Liking or loving games is always a matter of subjectivism. That's why I do oppose everybody who claims that the game sucked. There are many many many people on earth who played a lot of civ3. Games with such a huge fanbase don't deserve to be entitled as 'a game that sucked', that's why I jumped in on this.

                • I'm with Spike about Civ3 failing on Apolyton - it didn't fail here. Yes, many posters who had been here before Civ3 gave up on the game shortly after its release, but it didn't fail in any way. The Civ3 community here was huge. Hey, Civ4 is a better game, but admittedly, our Civ4 community has nothing on the Civ3 community we had.

Oh, and I was a part of the community for a year or so. I don't consider myself to have been a big or integral part of the Civ3 community, but I certainly was there .
