Atheism should be a civic option similar to free-religion, maybe called secular government. But whereas FR give you bonus happiness for each religion, secular government would remove all advantages from religion and prevent new religions from joining cities. Civs with state religions would get negative modifiers with you: "You deny the existence of our god!!!". The offset would be an even higher science rate, maybe +30%.

After all, there's no civic option for religion that would accurately reflect a communism state. The Apolytoner formerly known as Alexander01

I have no religion. I typically found Confucism in CIV. Religion is a key element of the game. Great for manipulating the masses

I typically go for hinduism because a spiritual AI civ can usually get to buddhism before me.
I like Civ's approach to religion compared to other games- In Europa Unversalis, you're pretty much stuck with whatever religion your nation starts with historically, and Medieval 2 (if you play as English or French) you're stuck being Catholic with no way of converting and are constantly having to deal with Papal directives.
I just wish the religions had more character- they're kind of homogeneous and bland. This is the result of political correctness- they were too afraid of offending someone.

I'm an atheist, and I sometimes found a religion, sometimes not. I generally have trouble spreading my religion to my neighbours (unless I make a big effort at missionary work), so I often end up more diplomatically isolated if I found my own religion than if I just go with the flow."I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident
"I never had the need to have a boner." -- Dissident
"I have never cut off my penis when I was upset over a girl." -- Dis

I've voted for "Find first religion I can get" though it is worth adding that I only do that when I think it is tactically useful to do so.
Though interestingly I usually do go for "State Ownership" so may be I should have answered "yes" to the question.I do not live in London, I live in South London. South London is different, a warm melting pot where everyone can become a bona fide South Londoner by virtue of two things. One: living in South London, and two: having no aspiration to live in the Cotswolds.
