  • Sacking Tokus city makes Shaka upset?

I was fighting a war VS Toku and managed to capture Satsuma witch I burned down.
To my surprise Toku did not mind this at all while Shaka, my allied and friend,
got upset claiming I had destroyed one of HIS cities.

    WTF?
Anyonw know what is going on here?

One possibility I could think of is that Shaka at some point of the game has had the ownership of
Satsuma. However the "Return city to Zulu control"-option did not exist when I captured it and it is in any case pretty
impossible for an invader to figure out that a Japanese city, built by the Japanese and beeing under Japanese control in fact counts as a Zulu city. Now this is going to hurt my relationship with Shaka for the duration of the entire game. A bad thing considering that he is my only friend this time around...

    Similar experiences anyone?
    GOWIEHOWIE! Uh...does that
    even mean anything?

Does the cultural influence the Zulus exerted on it have any bearing?

This is a blessing in disguise. Use the opportunity to take Shaka out now; the only good Shaka is a dead Shaka.

satsuma is a japanese city captured by the zulu. so when you raze it, it still counts as burning down a japanese city.

Satsuma is a Japanese city allright. Japanese founded.

It does not make sense for Shaka to get mad over razing it.

Unless Shaka captured it long ago, totally converted it to his culture, then lost it again and you razed it shortly after that.

That could be it. And perhaps the game sees an originally Japanese city then, and thus does not give the option to return it.

Sounds like a bug - if Shaka gets upset you should get the option to return it to Shaka, no matter who owned it when.

Probably caused by multiple ownership switches. And thus very obscure, and never found before. Something like that.

Are you playing warlords or vanilla? Latest patch?

It's kinda hard for him to return it to Shaka after he's burned it to the ground

Are you able to confirm that THIS city was the cause of the problem? IE, one autosave before this do you have Shaka being okay with things, and one autosave after do you have him being upset?

In any event, can you post an autosave just before you raze the city?

also when you finish the game, look at the events to see what ownership changes had taken place.

The city indeed bordering both cultures but according to culture-value on tiles close to the city, Its a city firmly under the Japanese cultural influense. Also a clear majority of population is Japanese.

Seems odd. Maybe Shaka owned the city for a time.

Even so, it's a little odd in that it's clearly a Japanese-founded city. Could be a bug. If you've got a save, you might want to post it in the bug thread.

                      Was it a holy city?

That's a good question, I think. Would Shaka be pissed if it was his religion's holy city?
