- desert tiles beside rivers often don't have the floodplains feature (I hope this a bug and not a designed change).
Yeah, in my last game I had a fairly large desert north of my starting position with a river running through it. No floodplains whatsoever. I thought this was just a change in design also. But it doesn't really make sense. Not too many rivers in world abutted by sand dunes. While there are a few smaller rivers running through scrub deserts, the rivers in CivIV represent major rivers, all of which, in one way or another, create floodplains with highly cultivatable land. This must be a bug.
A thing either is what it appears to be; or it is not, but yet appears to be; or it is, but does not appear to be; or it is not, and does not appear to be.--Epictitus

I got a pretty picture. It's actually from a huge map. I turned the graphics down to low and haven't had it since. But I did have this problem when I originally got civ4.
I still have a few weird graphics problems. mainly with the mini map. I'm in the 1700's now, hopefully my computer can finish this game.
I love my shadow army though. They should get some kind of stealth bonus.
That looks like a hardware T&L problem to me. I wonder if maybe there's some optimizations issues with the patch. Some people seem to have a harder time with the graphics part of the game now.

Dis, is that a real world map with real civ starting locations? Where did you get that?
came with Warlords as far as I know. Just click on single player, play a scenario and select world map 18 civs. It's a huge map, be warned. Unbalanced starting positions. I defy anyone to win this game with the Mongols or Incas.
It's possible I downloaded it from apolytong (or cfc), but I do think it came with warlords.
vanilla civ had a large earth map shipped with it. It also had accurate starting positions, but had no civs in the americas. Only in africa, europe, and asia.
I have an issue with mods not working with the patch... Earth 24 now shuts down to desktop when loading mod. Loaded Europe (the one that comes with the patch) and on second try it loaded the mod, but went immediately to victory screen calling me a pathetic loser. (at least give me a few turns to prove it )
New patch please...
and can someone construct a new Earth map that works with the patch?
I played a game last night and it appears not only are all leaders coming out as "TEXT_CIV_LEADER_BRENNUS" (or something like that), but a similar thing is happening with the new buildings and great wonders: "TEXT_BUILDING_STABLE" (or something like that).
Also, Kublai Khan's avatar appears instead of Qin Shi Huang during diplomatic dialogue. This is when I had Kublai Khan as another AI and so I would see Kublai Khan twice as much as I should.
In addition, any land units could not board triremes.

The portraits for those two leader have been switched. Apparently they had it wrong in the first place.
I've noticed something odd with the "crop yield" graph in the F8 screen. It appears to only go back so far... so if I look at the graph in 1500 AD, the graph will be flatline until, say, 100AD and then suddenly spike up and thereafter display the data. The other F8 graphs work normally.
It's basically like the game is only tracking the crop yield back a certain number of turns, and thus anything before that is lost.
I'll try and get a screenshot of it up this weekend.
Yes this has been reported before - if not here then on other sites.
The Crop Yield data is not being saved - so every time you start a saved game it starts from zero on that turn and of course jumps up massivelly on the next turn to its true positions on the graph.
All you see are the yield figures for the turns you play in that session.
