I have seen that one a few times. I think what is going on here is that at one end of the river where the desert starts there is a resource that can't be a flood plains. One game I had an oasis at both ends. Another had an iron and the south end. In both cases I assumed it was a bug and just used worldbuilder to correct.
This also was rude (to Firaxis & Take Two) and irrelevant (& irreverent) to the thread.
I disagree. This is a thread about bugs. I am reporting a bug for another unfinished product by the makers of Civ IV. Are you trying to say that I'm not allowed to express my dissatisfaction in the same post?
It seems that every time there is a complaint about the game in this forum, people just start jumping up and down and yelling "troll" or saying something disparaging to shut up the poster.
Some of you take fanboy to another level.

some people throw around unfinished product too easily. Though if you think about it, all games are unfinished. Since every game needs a patch. But I digress.
and the post was lacking detail. When you say new civs say this, are you talking about on the civ selection screen when starting a game, or in game when doing diplomacy etc?
I've seen some peole take haters to a new level. Attacking a game before they even own it.

Well, it's the most unfinished computer game product I've ever bought. I may not be as knowledgeable about the in's and out's of this game as many of you, but I consider myself to be a big fan of the game (having played since the original). I really do love Civilization. Perhaps that is why my frustration with this version makes me get so upset.
Anyhow, about the bug, it happens both at civ selection and in the diplomacy screen. It also happens in dialogue with the AI and elsewhere. It seems to only happen with the new civs included in Warlords.
I don't know much about XML, but I checked the coding and it seems fine (at least in the same format as the other civs). I've also re-installed the patch to make sure I got the right one and it said I do.
I really want to play the game tonight, so any help would be appreciated.
aside from a complete reinstall of the game (and patches), I'm not sure I can help. maybe you have some mods or scripts that are affecting the new civs?

I haven't done any mods or changed anything to the game.
As far as I know, I had the latest patch before finding out about Warlords. I installed Warlords and then the v2.08 patch before running the game. I'll try un-installing and re-installing tonight though.
Anyhow, I had a similar problem last year with Civ IV. But I can't recall how it got fixed. Either someone gave me a tip, a patch fixed it, or it just sort of corrected itself.
By the way, I also get pop-up messages saying something about an error when loading the game. This also happened before when I had the problem described above and then got fixed somehow.

TBH it sounds like a corrupted file. In your position I would uninstall Warlords and Civ IV, error check and defragment my hard drive and reinstall the games and patches. That is fairly simple to do, if a little time consuming. If that doesn't sort it then your problem might be hard to track down.
Just because you're experiencing a bug doesn't mean a game is unfinished.
I would call a game unfinished if a patch is needed before half of its features work. That was never the case with civ. There were quite a few bugs, but the term 'unfinished' is simply a gross overstatement.
Anyway does anyone remember the original half-life? That game was so horribly unfinished when released that it took almost a year of patching before multiplayer worked at all. Yet it's one of the most popular games ever.
So does that mean you would call a game finished if only half of its features work?

I just reported your post to the moderator. Not only was it rude, but irrelevant to the thread. I suggest you stop posting comments like that.
Woah, I'm scared now! You should consider getting an acting job in a soap opera, you have a real flair for melodrama.
If you're having issues with Warlords, you should really consider that there might be something wrong with your system instead of automatically blaming Firaxis/2K. It has been one of the most bug free releases most people have come across for a long time. Aside from a few very minor issues, your's is the only post I've come across from someone who's having problems. That certainly seems to indicate the problem is on your end.

Nope, it didn't work. Hopefully, the next patch will fix it.
I got a pretty picture. It's actually from a huge map. I turned the graphics down to low and haven't had it since. But I did have this problem when I originally got civ4.
I still have a few weird graphics problems. mainly with the mini map. I'm in the 1700's now, hopefully my computer can finish this game.
I love my shadow army though. They should get some kind of stealth bonus.
