Fine thanks CM, until I started reading some of the nonsense in this thread. Brought back memories.

        • I am amazed.

Unless I missed a recent amendment to the constitution, I think I have a right to not play the vanille civ4 demogames.

In fact I am quite sure I have this right, and I must insist on using it.

I am not hurting the demogames by not playing them. I am doing nothing against them. I simply do not play them. Calling this 'hurting them' only proves that you have a very ****ed up definition of the word 'hurt'.

It does not matter if we, those who want this demogame, play other demogames or not. That is our own decision. Even if we stop playing other demogames because we like this one better that is still our own decision. Arguiing over this is complete bull****. Our game does not hurt other demogames for any sensible definition of the word 'hurt'. If other demogames loose players to us, that just means we are more interesting. That's a good thing. It means more players will be playing a game they really like.

The question is just: Does Apolyton want to host our game for us?

Considering that we are all valuable and active members of the community and the very reason for Apolyton's existence is to service the community, I do not see how the answer to the above question can possible be 'no'.

If despite this the answer does turn out to be 'no', this can only be because of some perverse power-games by the Apolyton leadership, or people close to them. I'd be very disappointed in this site if that happened.

I mean, irrespective of if we get to play the Warlords TDG, I'm not going to participate in the current TDG/SDG (as I really like to play Warlords at the moment), so the decision if we get to play this has no effect whatsoever on the currently running TDG/SDG for this group of people (like me).
Likewise, the group of people playing the current TDG or SDG but don't intent to play a possible Warlords TDG shouldn't have a vote either as it doesn't concern them.

Therefore, I'd only let people decide who either play any of the current Democracy games AND intend to play the Warlords Democracy game (Ask the, if they're going to be less active in the currently running democracy games, etc) or who neither play any of the current ones, but WILL join one/both of them if the Warlords one is not going to happen.

That's how democracy works, right; Only the people get to decide who are concerned .
I would assume that anyone with no interest in a Warlords DG who does not expect to be impacted by such a game will either not vote or not for against a Warlords DG. What reason would they have for doing so? Sure, one or two people might be childish enough to try and stir up trouble but this decision will not be based on the opinion of any one or two people (aside from this site's owners of course ) and I am convinced that most people here are mature and intelligent enough to not cast a frivolous vote on this issue. Anyone who feels like they will in any way be impacted by this game, positively or negatively, is fully entitled to give their opinion and to vote. That is the whole point of the poll: to map who is affected and how they feel about this.

Yes mate i have memories also, funny thing is you are a fairly large figure in those memories, your wit and eloquence have been truly missed and it would appear you are quite capable of rolling up your sleeves and jumping right on in, I wonder what exactly is it you are wishing for ?

                      • Well CM, to start with, a number of folks are bashing Apolyton over this. The position Locutus has put forward is very reasonable. The arguments against a new demo game are very reasonable and well founded. And yet a number of posters have gone off the deep end regarding the site and democracy and "I'm out of here!" (bye bye) and blah blah blah.

To be honest, and you folks know me well enough, I am always willing to start something new. In fact, I am currently researching with some folks who know more about it than me, an alternate warlords demo game possibility that may or may not fly - that of using the pitboss server to greatly speed up game play. I am currently looking into how it may work as a team demo game.

As to a new pbem based demo game - the Civ3 Lite game comes to mind. It died a lacklustre death afaik. The counter-points folks have rasied here are very real, and are being dismissed out of hand by a few. If folks want to have a two team warlords game for 20 members, my sense is simply share emails and make it work.

But others are suggesting to give it some time, let the interst build, and when there is sufficient support for the game, it will get going. That seems to be an eminently reasonable position.

And quit bashing Apolyton. I live here too, and I for one love the place.

                          It was a bit

                          more of a comment

                          about how his

                          That makes them

Best thing of all is your not even signed up to play this when Fed is, I think that means his post is far more topic related than yours is or will ever be !
                          Think again.
