At Gamespot some people seem to have the idea that because Canada has a high GDP, hosted the Olympics Games, and Canadian troops fought under the British Army in some major battles, that Canada should be in Civ. I would like to give them some numbers to tell them that Canada is not worthy of being in civ. Here's the thread:

Wouldn't mind seeing Canada in there, but only if they are called Canucks
But not before the Dutch! We definitely deserve to be in there more than some nations which are already in it. And more than Canada also.
Our unique unit is easy. A naval unit to replace the frigate or galleon. Though naval units are a bit neglected in civ4, which is a shame. During the 16th century the Dutch built the best ships by far, so good in fact that even our enemies used 'em.
Unique building should be something like a windmill, to replace the aquaduct. Those buildings are definitely not alike, but they do serve the same purpose, and building aquaducts in The Netherlands is rather pointless, since it's all flat

In that thread on gamespot almost everybody seems to be arguing that Canada has no history whatsoever, has played no role in history whatsoever.
I've been thinking about this, and indeed, what has Canada ever done in the world? I know they helped in WO2, and their help in The Netherlands was actually pretty significant, but still. Just helping your friends is hardly the same as making history. They probably helped their friends in a few more wars, but that's still hardly making history.
I can't really name a single important historic incident that has Canada as one of the major players.
The really interesting thing is that they seem to be the only nation in the world that can say this. Every other nation I can think of has played important roles in major historic events.
Of course, major historic events are usually rather bloody wars. So not being in any major historic events is probably a very good thing. As Terry Prachett writes in one of his books: There is a curse. They say: "May you live in interesting times"
Canada never has interesting times. It just has peace, prosperity and happiness all the time. Very boring. Probably a good place to live though :P

Canada has played a role in the world, and does have a history; it's just that its role has been minor, and its history is somewhat dull.
Canada shouldn't be put into the game, unless it's in a user-created mod or scenario. There are so many other more significant nations/civilizations that deserve to be in instead. I voted banana because it's a silly thing to even consider including Canada. Sorry if that messes up your poll.
I have also seen people advocating the inclusion of countries such as Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, but those people are ones who'd like to have 50+ civs."Every time I have to make a tough decision, I ask myself, 'What would Tom Cruise do?' Then I jump up and down on the couch." - Neil Strauss

Russia isn't America, and neither is China. So this is a pointless remark.
I'm proudly Canadian (obviously), but even I don't think we should be in Civ. Unless we're part of the 11th XP; then we'd be the 60th civ. If there are Canadians who want to be included in Civ, change the code. I just choose a civ, change my name, and pretend the French (or whomever) are Canadians for the game. There are more worthy cultures out there.

Canada? No, it should not be a standalone civ. But if it where combined with the USA, to make the generalic "European/Immgrant America"? That would be pretty cool, and maybe give the America some more solid ground to be call a civFormer President, Vice-president and Foreign Minister of the Apolyton Civ2-Democracy Games as 123john321

It's Tass. He was just ****in' around.

I like Canada well enough, and it does have a history and a role in the world... but I figure there are a good number of other nations/civs that should get in before our nice northern neighbors...
