Vassals dont seem to add much strategy into the game at all. It is more like an act of convenience for a person going for domination.

If it gave all research, all gold, all gold per turn (surplus), and all technology and it kept happening until they cancelled, then that would work well. A lot of good things could come from that. The master would be in a position of actual control. It would then be their responsibility to distribute the tech and gold to the Vassals and form a true empire like co-operation. Right now, there is none of that. No possibility for that

Think about it... you conquer someone, you get all their research, gold and gold per turn. Now THAT would kill strategy. Then the only right choice, ever, in any game, would be to rush one AI early. You do that, you make them capitulate, and boom, you have the power of two civs. Research power of two civs being the most important one. And with that, you'll have Cavalry in the field just as others discover Gunpowder.

But they would have the option of pulling out when it suited them. If they felt that they weren't getting anything from the deal, then they could stop it. The master getting the research and what not would put the responsibility square on the master... look after the Vassals well and keep the arrangement, don't or abuse them in some way and they walk. Makes sense to me in a big way.

The thing that bothers me is that there is no tribute. I expected at least to be gold per turn so that I could build something with it! Instead it costs the master maintanence. At least with conquering their cities I could turn them around so they could at least pay for their maintanence!

Once posted, it will be fairly visible. With a link from the forums, too.

Can an AI become a vassal to more than one other civ?

Capitulate in war to one civ, and voluntarily become a vassal to another civ during peace. Would make for an interesting love triangle

Other question: suppose I have stationed many troops in my vassal's nation.

What happens if they refuse me a resource or decide to break the agreement? Are all of my occupying troops immediately shifted out of the ex-vassal's borders?

One last question: can I use my airports to airlift units to a vassal's city?

                      Oh, one more!

What happens if my vassal starts building spaceship parts. Can I declare war on them at any time to prevent them from beating me in a space race etc?

The conditions of being a vassal imply that even if a vassal can build spaceship parts which go towards itself it is highly unlikely that it will have the production capabilities to win a spacerace.

True. If it did, then it would probably be in a position to break away (because their population/land size may be bigger than half yours).

I guess once I get over my over-the-top-expectations I had of the Vassal State idea, it wont seem so bad. Extra happiness and a war buddy

Solver, could you give an example of an interesting strategy that could be used with them?

edit: Also, when will the review be available?

edit2: Ahh, and also, how much happiness do you get for each Vassal (and how much do they loose)?

                              Suggestion for an interesting strategy:

                              Map:

                              CivA - CivB - CivC

You are CivA and want to go to war with CivC. Turn CivB into a vassal (assuming it's possible). CivB will take the brunt of CivC's assaults while you are free to move your units up to CivC's border without risking your own lands.

Edit: Wow. I really want to try that now.

KICK SOME ASS and vassalize them .

A couple of days after the release, probably.
