what gets me is someting they drop units off from a ship, and I don't see them. Yes I know it's in the events log. I just have to ctrl tab to see where the units landed.

Ideally, there would be an option in the graphics menu to enable/disable (some of) those circle-with-arrow event notice graphics and make (some of) them persistent.
I couldn't care less which city is celebrating. I'm sometimes interested when cultural boundaries expand. I'm always interested when the enemy appears. I should be able to pick and choose which of these events (and others) I receive notice of, and I should be able to make the most important event notices stand out like a sore thumb until I "click-to-close" them."I'm a guy - I take everything seriously except other people's emotions"

Reading about the Warlords expansion tonight, I have this complaint to make:
Damn it Firaxis, your games are just too much fun! I've been playing Civ IV every day for 8 months, and I haven't come anywhere close to getting bored.
First there was Civ, then Colonization, then Civ II, then SMAC - where does it end? With Warlords, I'll be playing Civ IV until the Second Coming...Voluntary Human Extinction Movement http://www.vhemt.org/

Another nitpick: I have just built my first siege unit, and got the message "Congratulations ! .... first siege unit [unit name] .....cause collateral damage to the tiles they attack." But (a) they damage additional units ON the tiles attacked, not the tiles themselves, and (b) I had trained a Machine Gun, which cannot attack.

It might seem strange, but then the Portguese had ocean going caravels much, much smaller than the multi-masted contemporary junks of Zheng He's Ming dynasty expedition which reached Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and East Africa.
The caravels however, did more than just hug coastlines.Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

It would be nice if there was an option to have the red circles persist until clicking on them."Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription is ... more cow bell!"

IF I remember an enemy threat notice after setting productions for the turn, then I'll go to my F5, select the enemy civ(s), then select "All Units." This works quite well in pointing out where it is.
(For those not familiar with it, click on the F5 minimap to close the F5 and go to that location).
If all the messages were persistent over the map, it would be terrible. For some messages to be persistent wouldn't work because what we are interested in vary with the situation. It DOES help to be familiar with the message log and the F5.
