  • A Better Expansion After Warlords?

So here's an idea for leaders in the post-Warlords expansion. I hope it's an Ancient Empires expansion.

    6 Civs, 4 leaders:

    1. BABYLON!!! - Hammurabi or Nebuchadnezzar
    2. Israel - David
    3. Maya - Pacal
    4. Sumer - Ur-nammu?
    5. Hittites - Mursilis
    6. Thai??? - ???

    1. Pericles (for Greece)
    2. Darius (for Persia)
    3. Dido (for Carthage)
    4. A less aggressive Aztec leader

I don't know... really, are more civs/leaders the most important features for an expansion? To me, it's probably the least important. I mean, it doesn't hurt, naturally, but it doesn't add much to the game either, IMO. I'd always much rather have new gameplay elements, AI improvements, new systems. Heck, I'd gladly buy a Civ expansion that contains only AI improvements, but a good amount of them.

If the Maya are to be in, I'd like Jasaw Chan K'awiil of Tikal as the Leader.

We definitely need a SE Asian civ.

I couldn't care less about extra civs and leaders. I don't care that Babylon's been left out.

New Civs with the accompanying features (leaders, UUs, etc.) were always a big thing to me, as they make the game world more diverse and give me mor eoptions for potential scenarios.

More AI improvements and game elements are good, but I never use a lot of them.

Example: Civ3 Expansions. I never built radio towers or any of the new tile improvements.

I, like Alexander, am a big fan of new civs for the same reasons he mentions. Although he is leaving out Meiji/Nobunaga for Japan on his list of extra leaders. To be fair though, they probably wouldn't fit with his theme of ancient empires.

Also, while we are on the subject of post-warlords XPs, I wouldn't rule out a third expansion for Civ IV given it's tremendous success. The PC gaming industry has moved towards a business model of having more expansions since the days of Civ III and Civ IV has far exceeded Civ III in terms of sales.

I agree with the last few posts. I really appreciate the diversity offered by new civs and leaders. I don't really care much about AI improvements, I'm sure they are great, but I just don't get the same joy out of it as I do the civs, UU's, leaders etc.

I'm happy as long as the expansions have lots of new scenarios. I'd much prefer more scenarios, and having new civs that way (i.e. for each scenario), than having lots of new civs and having to make scenarios using them.

And honestly, how much more scenario potential would a civ like the Thai or a less aggressive Aztec leader bring?

New gameplay elements are the most important thing for me. Granted, I enjoy new civs and leaders, but the best things I've heard about Warlords are: vassal states, Warlords great people, and 2 new leader traits. New civs are cool, but I want more things I can do with those civs.

I'd like to see a few new traits so that more combinations can be made. Perhaps even 3 traits per Civ; 1 for each Civ and then 2 for each leader.

I'd like to see something along these vague lines:

                      Civilization IV: Ancient Cultures

This would serve to add as many ancient civilizations as possible (preferably 8 to 10), as well as to increase the variety of the game's improvements, wonders, resources, and terrain until the Renaissance Era.

                      Civilization IV: The Modern World

This would add major civilizations of the Industrial and Modern eras (or modern leaderheads for modern civilizations) to the game, expand the number of industrial and modern improvements, expand the number of modern military units, and add scenarios based on the industrial and modern eras (WWI, WWII, Vietnam, 6-Days War, etc).

Even with two new traits, you gain a load of trait combinations.

Yep. 45 combinations ((10*9)/2), 17 more than in vanilla Civ4.

How about Civ4: Giant Killer Robots edition. It would add giant killer robots.

So I'm assuming these haven't been announced yet.
