I might as well sign it. Not that it will make a lot a difference either way...

It cuts down on piracy so game companies can afford to keep producing games. That sounds pretty sane to me.

And finally, if you dont agree, dont sign the petition...
If you're entitled to start a thread that's no doubt against this site's rules, I'm entitled to say what I want. I noticed that you had the same thread over at CivFanatics shut down. The same rules about topics such as this apply here. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has frankly.

It isn´t against site rules is it? It´s not like he´s advocating piracy or anything...

Do you really think it does that? Really?

            It doesn't work. At all.

It doesn't stop it, but it does slow it down. Not many people know enough about it to break CD protection, and alot of them don't even know you can get cracks on the internet.

                10) pointing out that you can buy an external HD to hold those other games while playing CIV4.

                11) laptops aren't the best for gaming on anyways, buy a PC

and as for the 'annoyance' for switching out CD's... how many games are you trying to play at a time? right now, my CIV4 CD lives in the drive, but had I the desire to put another CD in there, it only takes a few seconds.. every once in a long while. If that amount of work 'annoys' you, then you've got bigger issues to deal with.

Anyone who knows how to get a pirated copy of a game knows how to get a CD crack for said game.

10b) I don't want to spend a bunch of money on another hard drive just to store iso's of a CD I already own.

Not everyone knows how to do that. In fact the majority of casual computer users don't and they buy alot of the games.

Exactly. Anyone who actually can pirate a game can also get around a no-cd crack. Ergo, requiring the CD to be in is worthless.

But if the copy protection wasn't in place, alot more of the casual gamers would be tempted to just make a copy of their disks and pass it along to their next door neighbours etc. That alone reduces alot of piracy.

This thread is not against site rules. It's pretty pointless and not gonna accomplish anything, but that's true of half the threads on this forum. If we outlawed that it would soon be very, very quiet here But this petition in itself is not against the rules.

As soon as people start promoting piracy, explaining how to pirate the game or linking to pirated copies, that's when rules are broken and we will take action (rest assured we're keeping a VERY close eye on this thread).

FWIW, I agree with most gamers that any copy protection software is fairly useless in reducing piracy and only inconveniences real customers, but most game publishers (and quite a few developers too, I know from experience) obviously feel differently about that. No amount of petitioning is going to change that (buying Stardock games might though )

                              ...

You realize that requiring the CD to be in the drive doesn't prevent that, right?

Actually no, I wasn't. You mean people can still make working copies even with the copy protection in place? Isn't that something of an oxymoron?
