Who cares? It's still the same Firaxis. I dont see why after investing all the efforts at drawing wonder movies, they couldnt get some normal quotes for the techs and wonders and a voiceover dude who doesnt think he's still an emotionless Vulcan.

No, no, no, NO! Two tech's to listen for (look 'em up in the files):

      1) Satelites: It must've been very hard for him to pull off that "quote" straight through. A friend of mine who recently saw a replica of Sputnik in a museum in Seattle said, "It's so small. I expected it to be big and scary and cool." The "Satelites Quote" of Civilization IV ought to go down as one of the more sublime post-Cold War commentaries.

      2) Engineering: Good call on whichever editor/programmer chose to use the cut where Nimoy giggles, almost imperceptibly. You know who you are. Give yourself a Self-Highfive.

Don't be a hater, just 'cuz he did an Alleve commercial. The man's earned the right.

Nimoy kicked absolute ass. Anyone that doesn't like him, must kill kittens in their spare time.

Dr McCoy set it up for Spock to do the voiceovers, he now specializes in second careers for former Star Fleet Officers..................

Scotty is running a waste treatment plant in Edinburgh, he still can't quite get enough sewage thru the sytem though.............

Wrong series indeed: this is Civilization not SMAC. It is stupid to make a comparison just because Firaxis make both games.

Nimoy sounds a bit tired and uninterested, but I love Spock and the In Search Of series he narrated, so it suits me fine. James Earl Jones would make it too dignified and stuffy. Please God protect us from Morgan Freeman ever doing any voice over work. My only complaint is that Nimoy doesn't speak the source of the quote, which would subconciously educate me through the many hours that I play.

The movies are not going to be as spectacular as the ones in SMAC, because there is only so many ways you can depict the creation of Stonehenge and the like. I think the movies provide a reasonable reward for having completed wonders. Having nothing would be terrible.

All I can say is that I hope they are saving their creative voiceover efforts for SMAC 2 .

SMAC is Civ2.5 so I'm not sure how people dismiss it as "ITS NOT A CIVILIZATION!"

Personally, I thought Nimoy was inconsistantly good. He reads most of them very straight but sometimes with a sharp twist in them. This works very well for some quotes, but not all.

Those silly enough to read my posts will know I have long advocated an AllowNimoy=0 switch in the ini file and I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed the new patch does not include this mandatory fix.

PS: no kittens were harmed in the making of this post.

Any game that gets Leonard Nimoy to quote the the Sex Pistols, Hitler, and Sputnik is worth every penny in my mind.

Agreed. Civ2 movies were great and immersive.

I was disapointed to see them disapear in Civ3.

Civ4 reintroduced these movies which is good, but they are kind of bland just focusing on building action and too "cartoonish".
