Nope. Checked and double-checked. "Final Release" selected as build target, and build log in CodeBlocks shows Final Release being built.

Also tried enabling "Optimize for Pentium 4" (which is my CPU type), but that actually made it a few tens of KB bigger.

I think I'll start a new thread on compiling the SDK to match the 1.61 release DLL, I don't want to hijack this thread.

    Thanks for trying to help.

I downloaded Pitboss.exe and ran it - failed to execute because some required file was not found.

Tried to run Civ4 - several error messages appeared during the Init Python startup screen. The first reads:

Failed Loading XML file xml/text/civ4gametextinfo.xml [.\FXml.cpp:133] Error parsing XML File -
        File: xml\text\civ4gametextinfos.xml
Reason: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported.
        Line: 1, 44
        Source: ?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?

Restarted and the game is still unplayable. (Text lines are appearing as variables)
Re-registering the XML version fixed the problem.

To do this on Win2000 or WinXP, go to Start -> Run and type

        Regsvr32.exe MSXML3.DLL

        I'm a happy civ'er once more.

        • Thanks for the answers about save game compatibility, guys. I have downloaded the patch but don't have time to play civ today. Maybe tomorrow, if I can get rid of my girlfriend.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

          • Trev and I noticed a problem today. We played a simultaneous MP game and he intended to move a unit in one direction, but I was faster and already attacked that unit. The unit was destroyed, but to his horror another unit moved in that direction, straight in the line of attack of my another unit, and that unit too was destroyed. The same thing happened again in the following turn and as a result Trev lost a city.

This should not happen. It was always a feature in the single player, but should never be a feature in mp, particularly not in simultaneous mp.

            • Has anyone else experienced terrific globe view with 1.61? It was fine for me with 1.52 but now tiles with improvements get shown as black squares with the improvement shown inside, which results in the globe view being almost unusable. Of course my graphics card is really old, but I wonder if anyone else saw something similar?

                  • Great, but ...

I did a complete re-install to make sure it wasn't anything I did, BUT, when I start a game and build my first city I get 'Scotland Yard' and 'The Kremlin' in my build que, along with the normal warrior and barracks.

                    What is wrong?

                    What I have:
                    Complete re-install
                    The new patch
The new smaller vids for victory and wonders.

                    Can anyone help?

All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

                          • at first i just thought i had been uncareful when i kept having to reset my citizens and specialists, but when dauphin pointed out the same thing, i saw it's actually a bug that has been newly introduced in 1.61.
i assume this is caused by a fix to the "forced citizens" being lost when switching civivs.

anyhow, when all governors have been switched off and the turn is ended, it actually shifts around some citizens, usually forcing back a specialists i deactivated a turn before.
the most wierd thing is that it changes it BEFORE the turn is ended. the only way i've found to reduce (not solve) the problem is to use governors and emphasize on food/shields/commerce and not on great people production.

                            has anybody else experienced this?
