  • specialist bug explained and solved

coming back on the "specialist bug"... i read an answer by a firaxis developer:

The problem is that the city has a "forced" specialist (hence the yellow box)... try turning citizen automation on and off and see what happens. I believe this is an artifact of loading a 1.5[2] game in 1.6[1]...
although i (thought i) had tried that before, after his comment it worked fine again. maybe i just hadn't tried it in all cities.

anyhow, switch ON the governor, maybe emphasize food, then switch both OFF again... and it should work.

I wasn't talking about a yellow box forced specialist... but I'll try that fix.

Of course my graphics card is really old, but I wonder if anyone else saw something similar?
Yes, I have exactly the same problem. I have an Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go, with 32 megabytes of RAM.

          • Minor bug:

When a civ harvests a resource you haven't revealed (such as iron), you can see a seemingly illegal improvement (such as a mine on a flatland plains). If you take over this tile, the city view shows the yield for the tile assuming you have revealed the resource (that is, 1/5/0 in this example), but the world view shows the tile as not providing the yield the resource would give, just the amounts from the base tile and the improvement (1/3/0). This latter total is the one actually obtained from the tile.

            • Well, being the official last guy to know there was an update.... I am having problems. Loads of XML erros when I load it (Tech_communism, BuildingClass_Forbidding Palace, BuildingClass_Three Georges Dam) and when I play I get a Leader_Chinese_Leader error. The game still works but I haven't gotten to the point to try to build the forbidden palace or the dam. Any thoughts?

The Africa senerio - do you always start in the same spot? I always start in the north west (tried 5 times) and it's completely isolated from everyone else. Makes the early war stratogy a little tough when every one is 15 moves away.

              • remove any mods you installed in your CustomAssets folder.
                They are not 1.61 compatible.

                  • I'm wondering, if this is a bug, or should I just reinstall the game?

I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

                      • I haven't been able to recreate the specialist moving on it's own problem as yet.

                        • Does anybody know if there's going to be any XML documentation in the expansion?

                          Or... at all.

                          • well, I am completely frustrated. I can't win a battle to save my life and I can't even win on Noble setting. It's frustrating when you attack Knights with Grenadiers, 75% chance of success, and have the bonus edge and lose 4 out of every 5 times you try. I am even losing battles with full units going aginst units rated below one in strength left. I tried a full uninstall and reinstall but nothing works. Do I need to go back and put in the older patches? I am about to give up.

                            • gannet: why don't you post the savegame here? either use the autosaves folder or better yet, explicitly save before a battle and send when these things happen!

the patch changed something slightly in the combat model, making wounded modern units slightly stronger than full old ones. for instance a 50% wounded knight has the strength of something between 5 and 10. so fighting a full axeman is not anymore equally paired...

                              • Not sure if you would call this a bug or an exploit. In 1.61 marines upgrade to mech infantry. Sounds fair as a mech attacking across a river or from the sea with the 25% amphibious penalty has the same effective strength as a marine.

However, if you build marines and upgrade them to mechs they retain the amphibious promotion. OK you have to build the marines and pay to upgrade them but a transport load of amphibious mechs has a really good chance of taking a coastal city.

Moral: Build those marines while you can.
