  • Scenario Glitches!!!

Ok. In the Earth 1000ad one, how the hell do you talk to the byzantines as the russians?

Their not on option on the menus! Their score isnt anywhere!

    Help?

Byzantines are a minor civ, which means noone can have diplomatic contact with them. They also don't found new cities (I think), can't win the game and behave much like Barbarians (although slightly more peaceful if you leave them alone). They're basically Barbarians with a different colour & flag...

They havent made resources finite. The scenerios are as always botched and half arsed. It feels blocky.

I cant talk to some civs? That is crap.

I like the religions, the units. And the patch made is actually playable for me (used to take 5mins to start a game!!!).

Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion... but one real upside of Civ4 is, almost anything can be modded in. For example, you want finite resources. Such a system could definitely be modded in using the SDK. Anything regarding scenarios is just a matter of personal preference.

Well, it was either Barbarians with a Byzantine and Viking flag that actually behave like 2 different players or Barbarians with a skull in both Turkey and Scandinavia that behave like a single player. In either situation you can't talk to them, they were never intended to be major players who you could interact with normally. That was a deliberate design decision.

Of course, if you don't like that you can always open up the file Earth1000AD.Civ4WorldBuilderSave in your PublicMaps folder and change MinorNationStatus of those two civs from 1 to 0.

I geuss ill just have to edit them then. Ive only just got back into playing it and that really bugged me.

Also, how on earth do you get back into the game from the world editor? I tried hitting escape and nothing! I had to ctr+alt+del and shutdown civ4!

One of the buttons takes you out of the editor. Without looking, I believe it's on the lower right. If you hover over them, I believe there's tooltips.

I agree it's not at all obvious how you exit the thing.

The same way you got in:

                    Ctrl-w Enter WorldBuilder
                    Ctrl-w Exit Worldbuilder

And the top-rightmost button, IIRC, also exits.

Why would a Byzantine Emperor talk to a Russ in 1000 A.D.?

You mean, since Russia didn't exist at the time? Only various principalities there at that time...

Not to put too fine a point on it - Notepad.

It's just text. Just make sure when you save it you keep the file extension the same. (Notepad sticks .txt on when saving for some reason.)
