But the point is that it's a very simple change, and doesn't really come with anything negative... At least not as far as I can see

Not to mention the game where I didn't manage to found any of the religions, and the AI didn't send any missionaries to my cities (and they didn't grab one themself) for a very long time. I was close to discovering Sci-Method as a religion finally arrived to one of my cities

It wasn't because I was slow at discovering those religions, I actually was the first to discover 3 of the religions, but did I get any of the holy cities? No, my teammate got all 3 of them, and didn't care about spreading it to my cities... The first religion that arrived at my cities was a completely different religion than what my teammate had... Now I don't play teamgames anymore
This space is empty... or is it?

Because you can only have three missionaries at a time, three monastries of any faith is really as many you'll need in normal circumstances, even Islam give you time to build them.

What does the missionary limit have to do with what I'm talking about?

Nothing to do with what you were talking about at all. You had a rubbish teamate by the sounds of it.

Mine was a comment in realtion to whoever it was that complained about not having a big enough window to build monastries between Divine Right and Scientific Method, I was just saying you don't really need many monastries.

However, in the late game I often want to spread religions that weren't founded by me, and that I didn't have in my empire until recently. Certainly, if I am going for a culture victory; the ability to pile up another couple of cathedrals in each of my legendary-wannabe cities is important (I've sometimes started late-game wars just so I could grab a Buddhist or Hindu city or two -- "Give me your religion! NOW!"). The only workable solution to this is to switch to Organized Religion for a while so I can build missionaries anyway.

It's also worth mentioning that, when Monistaries become obsolete, they stop producing gold if you have that wonder that makes all religions buildings produce gold. (Spiral something? Forget what it's called...) Which is annoying, because I usually get scientific method not long after I finish building that wonder. But anyway...

For Philosophical civs, it is also worth builiding for the GP points alone, and it makes a great start in a culture strategy since it quickly starts generating 16 culture/turn.
Yeah. In my last game, (as saladin, with spiritual/philosophical) I built stonehenge, founded both Buddism and Hinduism, and with the early Great Prophet from Stonehenge founded the Buddist shrine very early; between the early shrine and the fact that there wasn't anyone trying to spread Hinduism from the other end of the map, I had 6 out of 8 civs convert to Buddism right at the start, and managed to keep most of the world Buddist for pretty much the rest of the game.

Also, the early shrine in your capital city gives you still more GP points...I made had 4 great prophets very early.

Yeah, building stonehenge right away can be very worthwhile just for the GP points alone, if you're philosophical and going for a religious stratagy.

Agreed. It also makes sense the existing way, since after Scientific Method the centres of reseach would be shifted to other placess.

That's not possible. If you are the first person to found a religion it will be founded in one of your cities.

Not if you're playing on a team. Being on a team means that both players in the team gets the same research the same turn... 3 out of 3 times, the dices went to my teammates favor, when we discovered a new religion

I guess I've never really looked all that deeply into it, so is it only the founders of religions that are always sending missionaries to my cities?

The civic Organized Religion makes it possible to build missionaries without monestaries, and it's not just the founder of the religion that can build them

Though I do feel like the AI almost never sends out missionaries, I've only seen them send out very few (and considering that their state religion is often only in 50% of their cities sure makes it look like I'm right)
