I'll support Portegese entry only if the opening graphic for them is Brian McBride from the US Men's National Soccer Team scoring in WC '02 against them .

          - Facts:
          ..
          - Portuguese people were the only people in the Iberic Penynsula that have not fallen under Castilla and Leon´s authority, except during a brief period in History, from 1580-1640. We have the Bascos, the Catalães, the Andalusos, all under Castilla´s authority...
          - We had one of the largest empires in the World, along with Spain. From the late XV century until the earlier XVII century. We conquered most of the North African trading posts and cities. We conquered the Bojador Cape in Africa, wich was thought to be the edge of the World. We were the first to go around the Cape of Torments, now known as the Cape of Good Hope. We were the first to discover the maritime route to India, and therefore it´s incredible riches. We reached the far east, and were responsible for spreading the Catholic religion in those parts of the world. Also we were the first to sell firearms to the Japonese.
          ..
          ..
I agree that Portugal should be included in the game.

I admit to not being European, but 1580-1640 does not seem a particularly short period of time, I mean admittedly it's only 60 years, but that is still greater than the normal lifespan of a Human being in the 14th century.

My wife tells me that the difference between an the point of view of the English and the Americans (U.S.) is that to an American 100 years is a long time and to the English 100 miles ( ~161 km ) is a long way. She is from Jamaica and she says that 100 years is a long time and 100 miles is a long way.

-- I also think Sumeria (they invented beer, now thats a civilization) should be included.
-- I agree that at least one of the scandinavian civilizations should be included.
-- I believe that at least on of the North American tribes (Cherokee, Iriquois (okay that was an alliance of tribes), Navajo, etc) should be included.
--If you are going to include a North American tribe, probably an actual African tribe should be included.
--I would like to see the Celtics or something like them, and I always enjoyed the Mayans.
--Was Babylon an empire in it's own right, or was it an extension of one at it's height of power? It can't be overlooked if it was in it's own right.

Oh well, to long of a wish list I guess...

This was an accidental repost. Edited to remove.

Any chance that we could have civil wars... Part of your nation (or a computer's nation) that seperate from their original nation, but don't join another?

Shaka Zulu, Only because we have a mear 2 african civs.

Byzantium. Well they were ONLY half the world at one point.

Khmere sounds like a good idea. Spi/Ind is taken though. so what else can they be?

Chances are they will add more traits, like in conquests. I'd love to see +1 food civs again.

I'd quite like to see some underdog civs. Hallstatt or Mohenjo-daro perhaps. Philistines and Hittites. Toltecs and Nubians. I'd actually prefer not to have any civ in the game that didn't exist at least 2000 years ago.

                    Mohenjo-daro

Except, we don't know any of their leader or city names. Harrapa and Mohenjo-daro are the modern-day names of the places where their sites were found.

I think the Portuguese have an extremely good case personally. I'd play as them.

Oh, I'm sure names could be found, though probably not ones the inhabitants would have used. Does anyone think that 'Ur' was really a city name? Using the same basis for leader names, I like 'Ug'. It's at least as believable as 18-rabbit?

I've stated on other occasions that they should have a two civ combo. If it's about having one or the other, just have one leader from both.

                              Mesopotamian Civ
                              1. Asssyrians (Sennacherib or Assurbanipal)
                              2. Babylonians (Nebuchadnezzar or Hammurabi)

                              Levantine Civ
                              1. Phoenicians (Hiram)
                              2. Carthaginians (Dido or Hannibal)

                              Roman Civ
                              1. Romans (Julius Caesar)
                              2. Byzantines (Theodora)

                              Scandinavian Civ
                              1. Vikings (Knut, Ragnar Lodbrok, et. al.)
                              2. Swedes (Gustav Adolf II)

                              Celtic Civ
                              1. Gauls (Vercingetorix)
                              2. Scots (Robert the Bruce)
                              3. Irish (Brian Boru)

So for any controversial Civ, it is possible to double them up. Nevertheless, do we really think Firaxis would do it?

If we really must have yet another European civ then I vote for Luxembourg. Or maybe Monaco. The Casino as a National Project, and other civs can use it as a tax haven. Or what about Andorra? Now there's a civ worth including. One big duty-free zone...
