  • Favorite Civ, overall

First off, I apologize if this has been done - I did a search for "Favorite" in the Civ 4's titles, but couldn't see anything, leading me to believe nobody has asked this.

Since there isn't enough room to have a poll option for each Leader, I had to only use the Empires itself. Post after voting if you chose one of the Civs with 2 leaders.

Feel free to describe why. is it their FIN that you like, or their starting techs?

No banana? For me, it's a tie between Saladin, Asoka and Hapsetut.

It varies with my moods but currently it is Kublai Kahn of the Mongols.

It's tough to pick just one, but I'll go with Romans, for their ability to conquer a large world.

Others that I like include, in order, Japanese, Mongols (both leaders), Incans, Americans, English, and maybe the Chinese (Qin), the latter three for their financial/research strength.

Very tough to pick one - the more I've played, the more I've found that there really aren't any truly BAD leader traits, they seem more balanced than I initially thought. I play lots of different leaders, depending on my mood.

I picked Mansa Musa, because if there's one trait that I prefer over the others, it's financial - it just makes a huge difference. Spiritual can be nice to have as well, as with a spiritual leader you can switch civics without penalties. Very handy in a warlike environment, where you alternate between short peace-time building and shoring up with wars where you need wartime civics.

Also, you get skirmishers early, and they are very handy in defending against early threats, like barbs, and not to bad to have in early conquest too.
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

I'm still going through and playing first or second time with a lot of the leaders, because I'm one of those people who likes to try everything before he chooses. From the ones I've tried so far, I liked Ghandi and Washington quite a lot. I also liked Japanese, although circumstancially their UU wan't useful in that game so I couldn't test it properly with more than a few small skirmishes (not skirmishers).
"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

I chose Russia, with Peter the Great at the helm. His traits are my favorites (Philosophy and Expansionist), and I find his UU extremely useful. Cavalry have a long shelf life before expiration as an aggressive, fast gunpowder unit, and having Kossacks as a replacement is stellar.
"I wake. I work. I sleep. I die. The dark of space my only sky. My life is passed, and all I've been will never touch the earth again." --The Ballad of Sky Farm 3, Anonymous, Datalinks

Mahatma Gandhi for me. Industrious + Mysticism = Early Wonder Rush.
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.

I've got a liking for Mansa. Financial is always handy, as is spiritual. His UU is top-notch - when do you ever NOT use archers?

Cyrus is also a favourite of mine. His traits, creative and expansive, are not highly rated, but they work well together to generate the biggest cities around. Starts with a scout as well. His UU is pretty pointless - you need horses very early to be able to use it.
