  • I Can Play !..yippee.!!!!!!!!

    Hi
after upgrading my PC I can now play CIV4 with graphics to the max !!! Im sooooo happy...yipppeee.!!!!
I used to have an AMD Athalon 1.7gig with an MSI KM2M mainboard and 512 Ram, and a Geforce6200 256 meg graphics this has been upgrade to a AMD Sempron3300 2.1 gig Processor a K8Triton Mainboardwith a gig of ram and a Geforce pci express 256 meg 6600.
I`ve now played 5 hours last night and a couple of hours this morning without a single crash, no stuttering movies and high detail on the graphics.
Interestingly my DXDIAG shows loads of errors but Im adopting the `if it aint broke dont fix it` mantra..
I can now really enjoy this game........

"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

New computer: A little help would be handy!

Nice thread to ask for help...

Well, it's no a great machine or the ultimate game blaster, but neither my money is…

      Pentium 4 3.0 HT
      Asus P5GDC-delux proactive
      HD 160 gb
      2 .0 GB DDR2 PC-533
      256mb GeForce FX5500 AGP DVI

Is this enough to play cIV properly (with all graphics set to high)?

What'd say, folks? I’m not aware of the state of the art nowadays…

Please, troll boys... Be nice! Don't kill my new computer even before I buy it...

But I would love to get some advice here... I don’t have enough money to make the wrong decision, you know… And this motherboard has support to up 4 GB of RAM. I can upgrade the RAM later (This is very important when you have to deal with big images).
Is that motherboard a good one?

Edited: I made a mistake, the memory support for this motherboard is 4 GB, not 8 GB.

I wonder what is the theoretical "maximum" card one would need for fluid play with max settings on 1280x1024?

I wonder why we still have santa hats?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Uhh, you have a pretty smoking computer actually.

Mine is a P4 2.8 ghz, 1 gig RAM 128meg ATI 9800 Pro that I built about 2 years ago and it runs the game perfect at all maximums. I would think your computer should be fine.

Aro, that graphics card is holding the rest of the rig back. I'd bump it up to at least a 6600. Take the RAM down to 1gb if you have to.

              Thanks, folks.
LordShiva, unfortunately I need this amount of RAM... My job demands it. But you're right; the graphic card is the weak point.
Sigh... I'll have to spend a little more, I think...

What LordShiva said. If you upgrade the graphics card to 6600 or 7800 you´ll have one kick-ass comp!

                And congrats tiny toad!

The 7800 card is almost the price of the whole machine!!
But I'll take the GeForce 6600.

And tiny toad... Congrats! I'm sorry to steal your thread...

Aro, yes the 7800 card is a bit pricey (to put it mildly...)

I wonder if you can get a PCR for threadjacking?

My suggestion is to play the game first at the settings you want. If the graphics gets slowed down at a late game on a large map (if you don't play large or huge maps you are fine) then upgrade.

Don't upgrade before it is necessary like I did. It's a waste of money.
