Oh but they do harass the computer players. The Barbs took Delhi over before I even started killing the Indians in one game. And this was with raging barbs off.

Not only did they take their capital, but the Buddhists holy city to boot.
Although in that game the Indians started alone on a small landmass. So the barbs there only had one thing to focus on.

Yeah, in my experience the complaint that barbs don't antagonize the AI civs as much as the 1st person player isn't justified. I have continually seen the barbarian civilization go after another AI civ when it could have gone after me.
Most of the time I think this is based on one's military strength: if I have a weak city it will be attacked by the barbarians, but if I am strong in all my cities (even relatively strong) the barbarian troops go straight for the AI civs which are weaker. One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

Archers are really helpful with them. Just stick them in some hills around your border, preferable with forests. Though that doesn't work that well when the barbs start using swordsman.I love being beaten by women - Lorizael
