yes, but that part could be tied to how the other civ's like those ppl...

if there are 3-4 civs that like the UN, and voted to stop a war, then the one who didn't stop could lose ties with the others, or some such negative response.

      Diplomacy Modifiers

-1 "You defied the United Nations" (on a resolution I supported)

+1 "You defied the United Nations" (on a resolution I oposed)

I think that just about sums it up
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

yes but then we should really change the UN building video to that of a cardboard box being assembled - it will tie in well with the new ideas i think

          Axxaer,

I've played a lot of Diplomatic and love it. In my experience the other civs don't give you any credit for matching civics unless you have the one civic they prefer.

          STING,
There are lots of reasons to force or not force civics, for example, you don't need the pre-requisite tech

          MadDjinn,
yes it would be more fun to have more options.

            Here's a good one.

Let's say you want to run Pacifism, but your religion makes everyone upset with you. Vote in Free religion. 5 turns later, Vote No on Free Religion. Then hope they don't all switch back. The problem is you can get stuck in Free Religion. I can't find a way to influence the vote (like you could in Alpha Centauri -- I find myself saying that a lot. SMAC was way ahead of it's time, but I digress).

SMAC was a beta version. Ahead of its time in some concepts (Crawlers = win), but too buggy to really play all that well.
I know how to reload PBEMs without generating the reload message.

This brings up an interesting question.... what happens when you vote to enforce a particular civic, but not all of the nations have the tech pre-req for the civic? Do they drop down to one of the default civics?

I also think that the options for enforced civics should be whatever the Secretary General has as his/her civics. I don't understand why Environmentalism is the only Economy option. Take a look at the WTO, the world is forcing all nations to be more Free Market and not Green-friendly. There's much stronger support in the real world for the Free Market.

No that's his point - you don't need the pre-req for the civic if it's forced upon you.
"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

One more detail about favorite civics...

You don't get the positive relationship bonus unless/until that leader also adopts his favorite civic. Sometimes they don't run their own favorite.

I don't like the diplomacy in Civ4 as much as in Alpha Centauri, including the U.N. Frankly, I think they were trying to hew too close to previous Civilization games' diplomacy things rather than, say, Alpha Centauri.

What the hell is your problem? Take it to the O.T.

We don't really need the U.N., it doesn't do quite as much as one would think.
Mind you, that situation may change as china becomes more powerful.

World Peace is a crappy future and all the cynics know it.
Part of our human nature is conflict, and world peace we're either living in a big police state where we can't express that part of our culture or we've been deprived of that by surgery, drugs or selective breeding.

I'd consider World Peace to be very Dystopian. In fact, with the rising populations and great potential for a tech boom (if given funding) I'd say another world war would be good right about now.

"But what if you were one of the soldiers with friends dying blah blah ..."
... They're the minority. The Vocal minority. Everyone who actually benefits from the industrial and technological development during a war doesn't complain all that much, now do they?
