funny, i have been getting crashes post patch, but never had them before patch.

I guess it comes down to Graphics Card. Funny for a game that is turn based, you need a top of the line GC to run at maxium settings.

My game's been running fine post patch, much better than before. I've got a craphouse system with only 256M RAM, 1.8 MHz processor and a Geforce 5200. Initially this game lagged and lagged even on low graphics settings but I got an enormous improvement following sime simple advice on this forum with regards to directly telling the graphics card what not to attempt to do, rather than just telling Civ to have low detail.

I've played 3 games of civ4 and am now winning on monarch. Not that I'm bragging or anything, this game is most definately beatable on this level following a few fairly simple principles., I've never been great at civ games though I played Civ2,3 and SMAX, but civ4 is a new game and needs new strategies to beat it. Yet you're surprised when people react negatively to posts written in capitals stating that the game sux because you can't *yet* beat it above the middle difficulty levels!?!

Calm down, ask around in the support forum for specific fixes for your system, wait to see if there is another patch, check out Vel's strategy forum (vol2) and the AU to pick up some gameplay tips and you may find yourself enjoying the experience much better.

The game is not that hard at prince or even monarch. If you were good at the old civs there's only a few new techniques to learn to be able to beat it at those difficulties.

Anyway, there's heaps of fun to be had at the lower difficulties as well. I could beat civ2 at deity with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back. Yet I almost always played at chieftain. Why? Because my main enemy was usually myself. I always played to beat my own records, to do even better than the previous game. You can do that at any difficulty.

Never been to Apolyton before, have you? You might want to stay away from Civfanatics too in that case...

eveytime it starts I get a message which say "civ 4 will not run on this set up - not enough resources"
This is an error which I and some others have had. You can turn the Minimum Specs Warning off in the Civ4Config.ini file. Before I did this the message was coming up on a system well above the minimum reqs.

Also, I agree about the goodie huts. But they are easy to adjust. I've made it so that a unit gets a couple points of experience everytime it discovers a goodie hut.

I had lots of problems with the patch on both my systems so I understand your frustration. One thing that helped me was to hold shift during the initial load (after installing patch). This seemed to help.

If you want a diplomacy text fix (which, among other things, gets rid of the redundant exclamation points) go to my thread: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=142029
One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

Hi - I posted on the same technical problem before and emailed support about it. I was wondering if you have any workaround solution for the graphics issue. Like the original poster (and apparently you) - I can only run the game post-patch at the lowest graphics setting but could run at the highest pre-patch. If anyone knows of something I could do here, that would be cool.

BTW - I like the little santas.

Hey - this fixed the warning message and the graphics reset problem - just set HideMinSpecWarning = 1 (instead of 0)! Thanks a lot. I saw someone else mention this in another thread as well.

                    That warrants a jolly santa.

Well, the patch actually allows me to play the game! It fixed my black terrain for one thing.

The only problem now is that the wonder movies ALWAYS crash my game instead of USUALLY crashing my game

I think different computers are getting different results, more so than usual.

I could not get the patch from within the game, but had no trouble downloading after leaving the game. There still seems to be a memory leak problem.

Play at Noble level seems too easy, but it could be because I have too many civs in the games (the AI doesn't do well in that case).

my noble level isn't too easy. . But I'm probably not as good at the game as you.
