the patch 1.09 is awfull!!!!!

    the patch 1.09 is awfull!!!!!

    THE GAME IS ACTUALLY WORSE WITH THIS PATCH!

    Top of the line brand new Gateway 836GM....game ran fine before the patch....now eveytime it starts I get a message which say "civ 4 will not run on this set up - not enough resources"

    Oh, the game then runs...but at the lowest possible graphic setting...and I can't change it to run it with any of the bells and whistles (requires a game restart - which wipes out the graphic options changes)

    Not enough resources?

    3.2 Ghz Processor
    1 GIG of Ram
    128 mb graphic card...

    BS!

    This game is a dog!

    -also the balance is off
    -impossible to win at any setting higher than Noble
    -goody huts never give enough tech...only useless maps and experience.
    -no way to edit or create a scenero.

    I won't speak to your technical problems or comment on balance, somebody else will.

    -impossible to win at any setting higher than Noble
    Go take a few lessons from the AU, it's MEANT to be near impossible

    awww, the game isn't giving you enough free stuff?

    The SDK is coming, it isn't here yet, but it will, and then you'll be amazed.

        Were you enjoying the game at all before the patch problems? If not, there probably is no reason to stay. If your problems are mostly tech-related, play some other games for a while until this one gets sorted out.

            Yes, I was enjoying the game...and I still am enjoying the game..I'm just frustrated with the performance problems...POST PATCH.

            Moreover, the game play is VERY OFF...It shouldn't be necessary to cheat at the Noble/Prince level to win...only Emperor/Sid level.

            The random dice roll for goody huts makes the game more LUCK dependant and less STRATEGY dependant..also the AI isn't very good TOO easy to beat at low levels (leaving cities undefended etc) and to hard at PRINCE and higher...

            Look, I started with CIV1, went to CIVII, then CALL to Power, and CIV3...I'm now up to CIVIV and while the GRAPHICS and MUSIC are outstanding, the AI, BALANCE and OVERALL PLAY kinda stinks...OVERALL CIV2 and CIV3 were better games....in these respects.

            Now, I have this Performance problem which with a 3.2 GHz Processor, 1 Gig of Ram and 128 VC shouldn't exist...and I liked the "bells and Whistles" graphic-ly that's what keeps me coming back to play...

            I'd also like to comment: that RELIGION isn't the best implimentation I've seen in the game - those that get it 1st have TOO HUGE and advantage throughout the game...again BALANCE.

            I'm just unhappy that the patch seems like a step back...it doesn't remove problems but adds them.

              As to your technical issues, maybe you should try a fresh install and then apply the patch. Throw in a hard drive defrag too just to be safe.

                  I might do that (fresh install) but my drive is 60GB with 5 used...and is defraged regularly...

                  as for the fresh install...I did the patch via...the game itself...you know, ADVANCED, OPTIONS, CHECK FOR UPDATES thing....it was all AUTOmatic...smooth install (via Cable Modem)...no, I think the PATCH just stinks!

                      Odd. Sorry to hear you're having problems. If you're getting crashes, send the crash reports to Microsoft - Firaxis is utilizing them.

                      As for your comments re: difficult level/balance... I do suggest you check out the strategy/education forum and maybe the Apolyton University (AU) forum. There is a lot of useful stuff there. I assure you that the game is not impossible to beat above Noble.

                      I'm with you on the scenario editor thing, but hopefully that will improve.

                            jeez, I sound like a fanboy. The only legitimate gripe is the speed of the game on fast computers. Can't win above noble? Other people can (not me). goody huts do give good stuff if you pop them with scouts.

                              The huts are definitely toned down compared to CivIII. No settlers except on the really low levels... mostly gold/xp/maps. But that reduces the randomness element, and ultimately I'm all for that.
