And I think that whale will come handy once you hit the modern age with all it's "unhealthy" facilities.

whale becomes obsolete? how can an animal become obsolete?

                crazyness

and isn't that rule about not building cities within two plots of another city a bit stupid? it makes tactical landgrabbing more difficult...

Well, it's at least partially related to game mechanics. You could put two cities together at an isthmus to create a really long "Panama Canal".

And what's to stop you at two cities chained together? Why not three, four? A really long line of cities to build an urban Maginot Line?

Also this "rule" probably exists to limit any ICS variant strategies. Since so many people complained about this in Civ2 and Civ3, they were determined to stop it in the gameplay.

                    true, true
A chain of cities wouldn't be good. IIRC that wasn't possible in Civ3 either. But I still think it should be allowed to build within two plots (the rule could be minimum one plot inbetween cities).

Nobody hunts whales these days, at least not legally. There's an international law protecting them. Firaxis is just adding a bit of realism to the game.

Well... Ivory also becomes obselete so there's already a precedent.

horses are obsolete today. Unless you have some crazy need to see them go around a circular racetrack.

Ummm.... I think you mean the volume of hunting is reduced... There's still a lot of hunting. Japan in particular has an entire industry centered on the whale.

er, you can turn those off in the game options, no mod needed.

and certain eskimo tribes are allowed to hunt whale once a year. Though that's more of a ceremonial thing rather than any useful means of production (though they still use what they get I'm sure)
