Still CTDs??? I was sooo looking forward to playing the game after the patch was installed. Guess I'll have to wait for the next patch then, or return my game. My game CTDs within 1 minute. Still hoping the patch will fix it
Patch installs to the default directory (C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4) even I installed the game elsewhere.
"In some of its more lunatic aspects, political correctness is merely ridiculous. But in the thinking behind it, there is something more sinister which is shown by the fact that already there are certain areas and topics where freedom of speech, in the sense of the right to open and frank discussion, is being gradually but significantly eroded." -- Judge Neil Denison
How can I turn off this new 'feature' that tells me my system won't run the game and forces me to use low-textures and low graphic settings?
It worked fine on 1.00 only getting a little sloppy in the end game. There should at least be an option to turn off the graphics card checker (I have onboard graphics! )
Still have BLACK TERRAIN.
I can now see the leaderheads, but it's impossible to play like this...
How demanding is it to see plains, desert, hills, grassland and mountain tiles??? FIX IT already!!
This is now officially the third buggiest release I've played (behind Birth of the Federation and Outpost.)
While I haven't had any CTD's so far during the game, I have had one when quitting to the main menu! More significantly perhaps is there is now a NEW problem. I don't get any music unless I use the "custom folder" option.
At least the animations which I always skipped work fine now though.
Well, the patch fixed my black tile problem, but I crash to a reboot or frozen screen pretty frequently.
Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420
I updated the video driver to the Beta version at the NVIDIA website, but when I started the game I got the "system doesn't meet requirements, changing settings" message. Rolled back to my previous driver. I no longer get that message.
I've set all of the graphics options to "low".
Any other ideas on how I can avoid freezing and locking? Any help would be appreciated.

What video card are you using?
FWIW, I have an interesting data point; I get some blackness if I use a map with wrapping on X and Y axis.
