    And I don't remember hearing of an Arabic Empire from my history classes either.
    Perhaps you don't know history enough.
    There was a muslim empire for several centuries.
    - Muslims taken half Spain from VII-XV. Until Isabella unified kingdoms and founded modern Spain
    - That empire developed a lot maths, arquitechture, farming, ...

      the arabic empire included all of previous roman north africa, more than half of spain, an arab army was defeated and halted their expansion further into europe from spain by a FRENCH army near the modern franco-spanish border. they also conquered persia and even defeated an army as far east as china. what do they teach children in schools these days?

        I suspect they teach children that Muslim does not necessarily mean Arab, as the various Christian Arab minorities testify.

        The Caliphate was not simply Arab, and some of the armies that conquered the Iberian peninsula were composed of Arabs, Berbers and so on.


        One of the first famous non-Arab Muslims was an Ethiopian slave, Bilal ibn Rabah, who became one of the notable companions of the prophet.
