    edit: forget it. Sorry.
Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy.
    We've got both kinds

This is like all the Canadians who are getting upset over the inclusion of "Toronto" as an American city, except even sillier

I had heard in England once that the most unfortunate thing about the Roman occupation was that Hadrian failed to build the wall high enough. Now I understand that comment.

Actually, historically speaking, Civ shouldn't have an American civilisation - it should be part of the "English" empire.

yep, I renamed my civ the United States. I don't like the sound of american empire. It sounds stupid.

I'm sure 20% of Spain is upset, and all the Native Mexican tribes that weren't Aztec are wondering where they are, and Native Americans are all Barbarians in the game, and India's gotta be full of angry people too...

IMO, it's all good as long as we have a way to change the names, even if it's through crude hacking. Speaking of which, just how DO you change your own civ's name?

everytime you start up a game you have the option of changing your civ's name.

to be honest, most of us scots are english anyway - didn't the nobles spread their seed and aren't we just the offspring (many times removed) of these randy buggers.

That it is wrong for a man to say he is certain of the objective truth of a proposition unless he can provide evidence which logically justifies that certainty. This is what agnosticism asserts and in my opinion, is all that is essential to agnosticism. ["Agnosticism and Christianity", 1889, Thomas Huxley]

Ironically, "aye" is the official term for "Yes" in the English Parliament.
(As in "ayes to the right, noes to the left". Yes, it's weird.)

And quite frankly, I don't know this should be framed as an economic question, as I truly don't believe Scots/Scots that care about this make up a significant market. It's like if they named "Chinese" "ooga ooga booga" because, well, China's not a really big market for this game and those that like it will buy it anyway. Besides, you can always just change it yourself if you're not happy. It's not like it matters what the vanilla game says.
Quite frankly, I couldn't give a damn what they called China. I would still buy the game even if they had called it "ooga ooga booga".
