switching writing and alphabet is historically correct. The earliest writing was pictographs (think heiroglyphics and mesopotamian cunneiform script), Alphabets are writing systems that uses symbols to represent consanants and vowels, instead of whole words.

Whaling with optics makes sense-

you can use whales to get extra resources, blah blah blah without whaling, just have a city pop work that square (this is like the indians). BUT you can't have a true whaling INDUSTRY without optics to help your ships find the whales in mass numbers and kill them all. And that's about the right level of tech for a real whaling industry.

Indians getting a whale now and then is NOT a whaling industry.

Well, developing an alphabet only makes sense once you have invented the concept of writing things down in the first place - this is a simplifying action of reducing the symbolic writing like hieroglyphics to a set of symbols that represent sounds. If you haven't thought of writing things down first, you wouldn't really have a reason to think of an alphabet.

While there's some stuff that makes me go wtf in this game the things listed in the initial post all seemed ok to me (the alphabet thing was something I modded into my old civ 2 even).

The thing I disagree with the most would be the UN (there should be a Moo2 like model where you can refuse and risk the others attacking you).

well the most friking thing i would say is anoyying to me , the damn Inflation is really crazy when u get to the end of the game , i was payin almost 300% on inlfation that was like 980+ of money every turn , crazy ****t
