One silly little observation I've made about the menu music: If you sit and wait through the song once it will repeat. Wait a little longer for the second run and after the solo male singer finishes his piece the chorus breaks in at the exact moment the sun bursts over the horizon. Just a coincidence I'm sure, but damn it gave me goosebumps. What can I say? I'm a sucker for dramatic music.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Heh, I noticed exactly the same thing

I even waited and watched to see if it was timed to do that more than once, but it seems to be a coincidence of the timing only when the game starts.

The background music is absolutely fabulous. I can't commend the decision to use John Adams for the Modern Era highly enough - I almost fell out of my chair when I realized that I was going to war to the strains of Nixon In China . I think using an actual contemporary composer did a much better job of depicting "modernity" than most game scores could achieve.

Of course, hearing Scheherazade while I was playing as Katherine was also great.

Great "fit and finish" for the game!

            classical music

I've recently started listening to it. I'm not sure if that could be attributed to civ3. it's more along the line I like violins and cellos. And metal bands were doing songs using classical instruments and I really began to dig those instruments. Now I'm hooked on my classical music radio station now. I'm looking forward to getting civ4 and hearing the music.

Sad to say that I noticed it too. The Civ4 soundtrack is downright impressive IMHO.

They used lots of Brahms. That must have been meant for me.

I heartily recommend John Adams' music to anyone who likes modern "classical" music. Great stuff.

The music is great, I want to take it and burn it to a CD.. quoick question though:

Would I be breaking the EULA if I did burn it to a CD for personal use? I did not think it would.

That is in legal-limbo. You should be allowed to make personal copies for personal use, but only God knows the final outcome of all the bickering over the matter.

In the UK you can copy software for backup purposes (a single copy), but a straight music CD I think is a grey area. Not that anyone will know or care.

Technically you dont buy/own your software, you simply buy a licence to use it.

I just got back from Fry's and opened up my Special Edition box. It looks like I have a CD with the civ4 soundtrack. Maybe a reason to buy the special edition. I normally don't by SE's, but it was only $39.89 at Fry's. It appeared to be cheaper or the same price as the regular edition. Anyways, enough talk, I need to install this damn game.

Maybe in Civ 5, all this brilliant modern classical music can be culturally linked as part of the game. If you're playing Germany, the Wagner kicks in just as your Panzers cross the border. For the Russians, there's nothing like some inspirational Prokofiev as you defend your homeland. And if you're France, you get stuck with Debussy to accompany all your battles!

Civ4 clearly is the edition with the best sound and music

E.g. when the spanish contact you, it plays some malaguena or similar flamenco style music.
I also noted how all the units of the civilizations reported in their own language.
There are also some bits of Civ3
                            Mozard, Beethoven, Bach,...

I truly enjoy the music. What I am looking for is the lyrics for "The People are the Heroes Now". I've done a few Google searchs, but no luck.

I simply love exploring various options of game starting screen while it plays in the background. It seems so fitting to that - especially love how, when choosing your nation and clicking on the leaders, they play the "greet" animation on the screen.
The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?
