You get money from all cities with that religion if you have the Shrine for it (built by Great Prophet).

You do NOT get money from temples.

Other civs that have your religion will like you even more if you have the golden city.

Hiya Solver-hope you haven't gone to bed yet ! I wanted to ask a question about unit maintainance.
We know that unit maintainance is higher in foreign lands than at home, and higher under the Pacifist civic-and we know that city maintainance is always gonna be a much bigger cost issue than unit maintainance (according to MarkG !) What I wanted to know though is:

Aside from the aforementioned variability, is their actual variability in cost BETWEEN your individual units? For instance, does a tank cost more than an infantryman?

Are there any diplomatic states-with other civs-in which your units are considered in home territory for maintainance purposes (or movement purposes for that matter)?

      Thankyou in advance !

      Yours,
      Aussie_Lurker.

Nah, units cost the same amount of money no matter what they are.

If you have Open Borders with a civ, your units are considered at home for healing and movement purposes. I think for supply cost purposes too, but I am not 100% sure on that.

Did I miss the info on military unit supply costs? Seems like a lot of detailed improvements in this game.
          Haven't been here for ages....

Thats cool, though its probably another area I plan to mod. I am thinking of making very low tech foot soldiers have a food/health cost, but cost nothing in money terms to support, wheras mechanised units have no food/health costs, but cost say around 3-4 gpt. My personal feeling is that it adds another layer of strategy for the player. If you are an agricultural nation, then it makes sense to build a very big, low-cost army which is heavy on infantry, wheras an economic powerhouse will try and go for a smaller higher tech army based around tanks and mech-infantry.
Still, from an accessability point of view, I can see why they went with the tried and true 'all units cost 1gpt' approach!

Cheers, Solver, for the excellent review.

Aussie_Lurker, I really like you idea of scaling the support costs in terms of infantry / mech. That would really add to ways that one can play the game.

                  Another question: Does emancipation stack?
Example: If two civs have emancipation (or 20% of the civs whatever) does one get two unhappy faces for not having it or is it always just one.

That must have changed then, some preview said you got money from temples(or that review was wrong). Maybe was that too unbalanced and have they changed it.

I wonder how good a strategy that doesn't spend any resources on religion shall work, like:
Just take the religion that is most common in my region and don't spend any resources on missionaries, the other civs shall already be bussy with spreading it and the little extra gold one of them gets can easily be compensated by the extra buildings/wonders I get(because I don't spend production on missionaries and focus on great engineers instead of great prophets).

I wonder if veteran high skilled players fight in multiplayer whatever they shall still build missionaries?

This was probably one of the things which was pointed out as overpowered, so they toned it down to having a Shrine requirement.
Whilst on the subject of religion though, we know that open borders allow units to pass into your territory. What I want to know is: if you kill a missionary, settler etc for percieved 'trespassing', does this account as an automatic declaration of war?

as i understand, there is no trespassing. either they are out (closed borders) or in (open). if you are in, i guess you gotta declare the war...

heh, do you remember those civ2 warnings: sneak attack by >>>>> forces near >>>>

Sorry, I didn't clarify. I'm aware of the closed/open borders thing. I just meant that if you felt they were abusing your Open Border, and attacked the unit, would that lead to automatic war?

You cannot attack them, because you can share the tile When you declare war, they are transported out of your territory.

Yes, the penalty for civs not having emancipation depends on how many other civs are running emancipation.
