  • Based On What We Know: Rate Civ 4

I always find it interesting to assess public opinion of a game a few weeks before its launch. We've now seen a number of hands-on previews, etc., so based on what you've learned of Civ 4 up to this point, how do you rate it?

Seemingly exceeds all expectations. Buy on sight.

Has more than enough new content to be a worthy successor. Buy with no remorse.
    43.55%

Seems to be a standard (if promising) step for the series. Perhaps await a Poly review or two.

Borders on a formulaic rehash but might be worth trying. Definitely watch the public reaction post-release.

Might be worth a bargain bin purchase months from now. Let a few patches and some mods come first.

Completely disappoints. Neither patch nor mods could really fix the underlying problems.

Not polite to not vote in your own poll.

Hmm, so you either voted for the second or third option, interesting.

Indeed. I won't say which, though!

            I'm very optimistic.

I voted for option 2, with still a fair chance that option 1 - exceeds all expectations - turns out to be true.

And I would buy on sight even if I believed option 3 to be the correct one. After all, this is my favourite game.

BTW, yin, I really like the way you couched the scale of this poll.

Thanks, Lockstep. Thanks for your vote and explanatory text. I'd love to hear from the person who says Civ 4 is complete disappointment, too.

option 2. my expectations are so high, they can hardly be exceeded

There are a few things about the game that make me nervous. A few of the changes being made in the name of "simplifying" seem like they might be a little much. So of course I am going to withhold judgment until I get the game. But otherwise, I am extremely excited and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Option two for me.

With the reveal that infinite railroad movement is no more, I can safely say this incarnation is exceeding my expectations of Civ. I never thought they'd change that. All the other changes are very intriguing and I can't wait to play it.

Option 2... there's still a few things I would like to see changed/added, but mostly it sounds like an awsome game... of course there's still the risk of being dissapointed, but I believe there's very little chance of that

                            Option 1.
But don't worry Yin, I will go back here and complain endlessly if Firaxis fails me!
