Besides, building giant statues, sculptures and monuments of national leaders in modern day is more appropriate for fascisms rather than liberal democracy, on average. The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?

Between 1927 and October 31, 1941, Gutzon Borglum and 400 workers sculpted the 60 foot (18 m) colossal busts of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, to represent the first 150 years of American history.

I'm afraid to see more and more often also that democracy try to give away easy prize (dedicating naming of streets, ships, buildings, etc.) to still alive or just dead people. I think real greatness of a person should be proven standing the test of time for at least 20 - 30 years, before dedicating anything more than a sign on a garden..."We are reducing all the complexity of billions of people over 6000 years into a Civ box. Let me say: That's not only a PkZip effort....it's a real 'picture to Jpeg heavy loss in translation' kind of thing."

back on topic:
if the top-right icon is pre-requesites and the arrows are either-or pre-reqs, what is with situations like "metal casting" which has a pottery icon and an arrow from bronze working??- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

It needs both techs then. Only if another arrow would have pointed to the tech there would be an OR choice between bronze working and this hypothetical second tech.

but then why display it like this? why not use different arrow colours or dashed lines for optional?
at least 2 mandatory prereqs should be displayed the same (like flight for instance)- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

I guess "cluttering" has something to do with it.
