Civ3Players have been around for over 3 years. the Civ4Players name belongs to them rightfully...

Unfortunately, despite the fact that Badger's actions "were not condoned" by Cav and the rest of that clan, it seems that the goal - supplanting the Civ3/4Players community - is in fact quite condoned. I'd guess that perhaps Badger's attempt was more of a sending up of a balloon to see exactly what would happen before this more serious attempt was made.

As far as that goes, I really don't care if you want to compete - just have the decency and respect to clearly distinguish yourselves and, as MarkG points out, don't "accidentally" portray yourselves as the continuation of a community which you are not.

With all due respect, I find it unfortunate that you are wasting time on something that you pretty clearly don't realize what you're getting into. It's certainly your perrogative, but rather than confuse CIV 4 MP newcomers with competing ladders, a better road might be to try and open up a reasonable, intelligent dialogue about things you'd like to see changed within the community.

Rather than going from forum to forum and "accidentally" making people think you're the continuation of the hard work of others, that is.

No one is suggesting that the current board of administrators have a monopoly on the CIV4 ladders, anyone can create a ladder on Cases. Good luck with your new ladder. It's a lot of work.

That said, I do question the motives of the small subset of civ3players who have recently created CIV4 ladder sites. All ladder members have been fully aware that a CIV4 ladder and new forum were in development by the current admins. So why create a new one ?

I have read the following reasons:

1) We're not happy with the "draconian" enforcement of rules.
2) We want an alternative so we can have fun again.
3) Its just for our clan mates but others can join.

Many who have created the imitator sites have no idea what mult-play was like in the first few days of PTW way back when. A game would start and a few turns in, when a person didn't like the results, they would leave and start a new game. It was a nightmare. I remembered the MPGE of CIV2 had a league of players commited to playing a game. In those days the people in that league were considered a cut above and I played many a game to its conclusion. I wanted the same with PTW so I started PTW For All (the first ladder) Members who did not play a game to conclusion were penalized. Those that lost reported to those that won. It was that simple. As time advanced the rules became more and more complex as people became very inventive through more nefarious ways to climb up the ladder.

It takes dedication to manage the "ladder" to ensure that everyone plays by the same rules. I'm sure the players who feel slighted by recent decisions do not realize that in many ways they are why a league of players with enforcement of rules are necessary. I also suspect that the breakaway CIV3Players may not know is that the current board have worked with Firaxis over the last few months to help multi-play enter the new era with CIV4. We also have a great relationship with Cases staff which benefits all CIV3Players and the future CIV4Players site.

Again I wish you all the best with your ladder but there is only really one ladder and one community for multiplay - those that play multiplay games to their conclusion do not have to wonder where that is.

And Cav3man/Civ4man, if you really do succeed in running a better ladder than us, I'll gladly join your ladder. And on another note perhaps you would make better use of your time managing your clan members, than posting here about how bad we are, as Nitro has formed yet another Civ4 ladder, you'd think that your own clan members would support your ladder 100%
