  • Which mods do you expect to see?

Like the title says, given it's supposed extreme moddability, which kind mods do you think fans will make?

Here are a few i expect to see.

    Middle Earth/LotR mod
This pretty much a no-brainer, any decent strategy game nowadays seems to have a LotR-mod under construction.
There are just 2 problems i see with this:
Research: From what i know, Middle Earth is mostly a static world, there is little or no progress in technology described. Perhaps the research tree could be used for something else, like unlocking spells...which brings me to the next problem.
Magic: This might require some hefty python scripting, or maybe even c++ code to do this right.

    Alpha Centauri mod
Somehow i don't expect this mod to be actually finished, but i certainly expect an organized attempt to make one. Biggest issue with a SMAC mod would be i think the Unit Workshop.

    WW2 scenarios
Not really my type of mod, but given the fanbase i expect to see many of these.

    Future tech mod
Basically a mod that extends the tech tree to CtP-like proportions, some of it most likely inspired by CtP as well.

    Post Apocalyptic mod
Inspired by Fallout fans...but like the AC mod, i don't expect to see this finished/playable. I'm sure there is a group of Fallout/Civ-addicts out there that will make a good effort to create one

    Realism mod
Yarr, the old realism vs gameplay problem. I expect many tiny tweals to make the game more realistic one step at a time...and then at some point someone/some group will release a sort of compound mod, including all the little tweaks balanced to work together.

Of the mods that I would be interested in playing:

Historical scenarios, like WW2 Europe and WW2 Northern Africa, WW1, the Hundred Years War, the Thirty Year War, maybe the United States Civil War... Crusades could be interesting with the Civ4 religion concept.

A SMAC mod would be great and certainly interesting.

What interests me most, though, is AI improvement mods .

      AI mods, good one

I'd certainly be interested in something like this, maybe a bit simplified as well, but with an incredibly tough AI. (also knows as the axe-everything-the-AI-cant-handle method )

Oooh, another mod that would be cool: A demo-game mod!

All the necessary democracy game option accessible from within the game...maybe link the game with an online server and add a login option before loading the latest demo savegame, so that only the leaders can give orders, and members can only view the game.
All sorts of nifty things could be done if this is possible.

A mod for ancient era, like Kull's Seeds of Greatness, would be great.

I plan to do an epic mod, one that spans from the Ice Age to the future.

Another good mod would be a colonization mod.

I think there will be a significant effort from the AC Community to mod cIV--->SMACX, however it will be an uphill battle, especially considering we're taking a game that starts in 40,000BC with cavemen wearing loincloths and turning it into a futuristic vision with humans (and aliens) wearing environmental suits.

As well as tearing out significant portions of cIV itself (like Great Prophets). Good thing I live where the winters are long and boring, huh?

What I’d like to see is a Cold War mod; I’m surprised that such an interesting historical era doesn’t receive much attention.

The lack of actual war makes it rather unappealing to many.

Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan, ... do I need to continue? And don't tell me that both main cold war powers weren't involved in those. It may in some cases be more of a support thing, but was noticeabel nevertheless.
