Well, hopefully this is a sign that the game is as done as it's going to get.

This announcement doesn't change anything for me as I was going to wait to get it as a Christmas present anyway. It will allow for earlier reviews of the game though.

Maybe they're holding it so their team can be more competitive in intersite demo games.

        eh? but isn't earlier faster?

I mean, even if you have a paper or something, you can still at least play it a little...

You realize that my productivity will be roughly zero once it's released, don't you? Think of the children!

Sorry, I believe in personal responsibility.

Firaxis should not be pressured to not release a product that can be enjoyed responsibly in moderation because of CRACKHEADS like you!!!

I'm going to write Hillary Clinton and Jack Thompson and have them get the ratings board to change the rating to ADULTS ONLY.

Plus, it should be that way. There's genocide in this game.

Civ 4 was released last June to a limited audience in the Yap Islands. As soon as they develop the Trireme, I'm sure they'll send out the review boats.

Nope, but neither do I think it's common for developers to just say "Well, actually we're hardly working on the game anymore." So who knows they might actually be speaking the truth instead of some standard marketing lines.

Hell, who knows this is why Soren is practically camping on Apolyton these days - he's got hardly anything else to do to fill his days.

As I had predicted months ago, civ 4 will be released on the time-honored civ 3 release dates of October 29-31.

I have mixed feelings about this announcement. Obviously I want to play the game as soon as possible, but I don't think I've ever even seen a game release date do anything but get pushed back. There's pretty much always some polishing to be done...

Perhaps if Soren posted to assure us that it was complete and promise some sort of continuing support in the form of patches, I'd feel a bit more confident about this. I know release dates aren't entirely up to the developer, but at least give us some assurance that there will be a better followup than Civ3 had...

I feel a little as Sabre. I want (desperately ) to play the game, but I have to agree: Like any other piece of work, you always have a little polishing to do. It's a sort of mature thought...

What a heck, I want to play it right now, if they give me a beta version!

                        >_< Wait a sec, wasnt supposed to be released on November 1st? Or late November.

If was supposed to be released early in november, dont know how a couple of days more can help. They can release some copies to magazines for reviews if that is what they want.
                        Owww, I'm so cute! ^_^

The dates that seem to be best supported are November 14-17. In the end, it is only a couple of weeks change, but I get the impression from the wording of the announcement is that they're pushing it up solely because of money issues, rather than the game actually being done

I predicted this when the furor started over GTA:SA.

Take Two took a major financial hit, and is counting on Civ4 to get them back on their feet.

                            Bad, bad, bad news.

Yeah, I find this kinda worrying too. It sounds like they're trying to cover for other games pushed out of this FY by moving Civ4 up...

And I don't care if they've been tweaking AI and dropping in graphics for a few months. These things are never actually done--they just reach a point where you have to call it good and get it out the door. More time is always better.
