  • Atheism and religion

Do you think it is strange not to have atheism in the game which has all major religions?

They are talking about introducing the religion without insulting anyone. Are they insulting atheists by not introducing this (atheist) concept?

    (angry atheist)

    Oh please.

I'm an atheist, and proud. But to deny the importance of organized religion in the development of human civilization is impossibly thickheaded.

Either I do not understand what you are talking about or you can't read.

Did I talked about removing religion from the game? I was simply asking about missing atheism concept in the game!

If athiests have had (1) a sense of identity with others of like mind and (2) proselitized their beliefs, then I am ignorant of it. Those two traits are what make religions part of the game. Having been an athiest myself (and just not a member of an organized religion currently), I never found athiests reaching out to each other.

Another point: they decided on having seven religions -- how many hundreds of religions and sects have their been in history!?!

You can look at the USSR as an example of an atheistic ideology ("Marksizm-Leninizm" (sp?) is materialistic and atheistic ideology). It satisfys fully your (1) and (2).

As for your another point, the reasons of certain religion to be included are 1) How common the particular religion is 2) how much influence it had and it has now and in the recent history and 3) (may be most important) how many people who will play this game can associate themes with this or that religion/atheism. I think that atheism can pass these points quite easily and be withing first 7 or 8 ideologies for the game.

I'm not aware that chosing a religion is mandatory in the game. So if you want your nation to be aethistic, just don't choose one.

"Choosing" to be atheist or not shouldn't be allowed, after all there's not a single civ in world that doesn't have some kind of religious history. Atheism is a personal modern choice, but 100 years of it shouldn't affect the whole
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

But then you will not have specific advantages. Which will put atheism at disadvantage in the game.

This is good argument of why religions should be included into the game, but not why atheism should be excluded.

Different religions and atheism are ideologies. They answer the same questions and have similar influences on human choses. So IMHO atheism should be considered on the level with other ideologies. Why, say Taoism should be included into the game and atheism not?

And now day religion is not?

If you think that atheism is only modern ideology, then it would mean that it should come later in the game.

Atheist civs against religious civs isn't politically correct so it will be trashed no matter what

Agreed, but for this discussion let's put them together and call that atheism, as in "lack of belief in the existence of God or gods"
