You can't really put proportion into a game like this, e.g. A battleship is significantly bigger than a marine, and a tank is alot larger than a spearman. If you did make everything in proportion, your soldiers will be so small as to be indesquitishable.... indesernabible. unrecognisable from each other.I love being beaten by women - Lorizael

The new screens make everything look better- even so, if the units were 50-75% of their current size, it would be perfect
Also, it doesn't matter if you scale the units down or everything else up- as long as the zoom works smoothly, then it's all the same.----

Back on topic, I think the unit size will be as big as it takes to make them easy to distinguish. Surely some people (like me) will have that adjusted to look better, but that will cause the map to become harder to read. I think CIV will ship with those huge-looking units because that makes the game easier to play (even though a bit uglier).
And back to the threadjack...

That fact is in line with the whole visibility issue. Units need to appear bigger if you are zoomed out, so that you can find them easier. They can be made relatively smaller when you zoom in, because then you only see a few tiles, and it is easy to spot the units.Seriously. Kung freaking fu.
