The map-generator Firaxis. Make sure mountains come in ranges. Mountains don't pop up here and there with no reason.

    really?

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

Look around.. you'll find more. Granted, its not very frequent, but does indeed exist in nature.

The problem is, the screenies show exclusively such one-tile Mountains. Granted this might be a map setting or something, but I will rather worry now than curse the actual game.
      Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

That eagle is visible on the green, blue and red flags. It's a common construct in computer games design, commonly known under the generic term of 'placeholder art'

thanks, those really are big and pixelated

                  interesting.

i like how the interface looks 'oldstyle' - like 1993 games used to have LOL

i don't appreciate the way they use almost the exact same terrain graphics - something about me dislikes them - even though they use snoopies blue water

For a game that aims to be out in 2006,
last i heard, this game was slated for late 2005.. has new information appeared to prove otherwise?

                    • No, not really, just a mag who claims early 2006 to be the real date. All mags have different dates usually, so I wouldn't trust them.

                      • Well, there's not that much difference between late 2005 and early 2006, at least they can be close together.

                        • If the game is going to be released in December 2005 (in North America), then it will be vying for gamers' attention during (the first months of) 2006. If Civ4 was released earlier in the year, it would be competing with other 2005 games, say Empire Earth 2, HoI2, Settlers V, etc. But since it's released so late, it will end up competing with other games that are only expected to be released in or just before 2006: AoE3, Black & White 2, Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War, Legion II, possibly a yet-to-be-announced BHG game, etc. That's a whole different ballgame...

Civ 4 will have plenty of competition nonetheless. I'm pretty certain that games such as EE2 or HoI2 will last for long enough to still hav ethe attention of many in early 2006, and AoE3 definitely so. I just wonder how much overlap there is between RTS and TBS purchasers. I know there's a significant number of players who play both, but I think that many have a clear preference of either RTS or TBS. I'd certainly get Civ4 even if it meant no EE2 and no AoE3 for me.
