  • Great work.
    Using 1.03 I took my first Warlords game to 1881 and was comfortably ahead when the game froze as others have described, ie the "waiting for other players" bit never ends. Looks like this is being a tricky one to fix.

      You can get around these freezes by turning all combat animations off.

      • OK Dale thanks for the reply.
        I am going to be completely thick now and ask how do you turn combat animations off? I have been through every game option I can find or do I have to edit one of your xml files?

        • Options --> Game

          Quick Combat (Offense)
          Quick Combat (Defense)

          Options --> Graphics

          No Combat Zoom

          • Dale. I have a quick question. I'm new to modding for Civ 4, and as a bit of a first dip into the pool, I would like to try combining your mod with another existing mod. However, from what I can see, none of the modified C++ source from your mod is included in the download, only the compiled dll. Any chance of getting the full source, or am I totally missing something here?

            • You can get the source code from Dales thread over at Civfanatics.

                • I was just wondering if there's a way to disable the stack attack feature (i know it's the backbone of the mod) and keep the artillery bombardment. That's what I'm raelly interested in, and it seems like there are still lots of bugs involved in stack attacking.

With every attack, all I see is the message. Am I doing something wrong?"

                    I'm in the same situation. I cant take Thebes in my game 'cause there are tons of cruise missiles and one fighter in that city. The cruise missiles attack me if i try to attack the city. I loose half of my hp but no more. I can repeat it over and over again in the same turn and still can move and attack - but with no effect to that city. Does anybody know a solution? Btw - i have vanilla civ 1.61 and DCM 1.03

                    • Hmm, I wonder, if I could design mines with the "is destroyed after attack"-thing... Invisible, cheap unit, that causes bombard damage on to enemy unit, land or sea...

                      Though, Warlords version apparently does not work with 2.08...

                      • I tested a little bit more: the same problem occurs with fighters. If you killed all ground units in a city by bombarding with your artillerys (without a "real" attack) only the airborne's are left.

                        Normaly (if i got that right) there are four lines in a land-battle: #1: melee, #2: ranged, #3: bombard and #4: air. Each unit is grouped to one of these lines and will fight enemy units in the same line first and then from #1 to #4. Ok, lines will descent - if #1 gets destroyed #2 will become new #1 and so forth - you know what i mean.

                        But it seems to me that the way a line gets destroyed is important for triggering descention of the next line. If the first line gets destroyed by a normal attack line-descending is triggered. If the first line gets destroyed by bombarding no line-descending is triggered.

                        In my case one side attacks with 2 separate stacks (one pure artillery the other pure mech. inf.) - first the ary-stack bomards an then the mech-inf-stack cleans the rest. The other side is defending with ranged and airborne units. This makes defending infantry line #1 and the fighters somewhere behind, unreachable for my mech. inf. at the moment. Now i bombard with a stack of 20 artillerys and oops - opposing line #1 is gone completely. Fighters should now be new line #1 but they are not! The game did not recognize old line #1 is gone if killed by bombardement. The fighters are still unreachable but continue to give airsupport. So this turn fighters (or missiles) are immortal and the city impossible to take.

                        Workaround is to limit your bombard damage so that at least one ground unit is left for a direct attack.

                        @Dale
                        Would be great if you could look into this...

                        • Starting Mod

                          I followed your instructions about installing the MOD, and when I selected it, the game restarted, but then what? Is it a game in itself or is it part of a game I'm playing or will it be part of a new game I start? I've never used MODs before so I'm totally in the dark, even though I probably have 21,000 hours playing the CIV series.
                          I'd appreciate a little help for "Dummies".
                          Thanx

                          • the real trick is the right file

                            make sure it's not the mods folder from "my directory"

                            gotta go into C drive/program files/Firaxis...etc

                              (I don't have Firaxis) Primary folder is Civilization 4.

                              Again, I need step-by-step until I do it the first time, cause I sure don't see hjow to get there. Everytime I select the MOD, it restarts the game and I'm right back where I was.

                              • When my combat mod loads (name shows top-right of main menu) just start a new game like you would normally. It's part of a new game.
