Yep. CK1 + DV is the only playable version. No prisons there. You can assassinate ****ty vassals, but your best bet is to strip them of their titles when they inevitably revolt, and launder vassals by transferring the title to a family member who has too many. Thankfully your vassals never run out of people to award titles to. Unlike CK2, you can't invite someone to come to your court. You are stuck with the courtmembers you have.

HoI4 is surprisingly fun, but you have to sabotage the course of history. Right now I am playing as socialist Mexico. The States were my first conquest, and now I am waging war against South America. Waiting for UK or Germany to turn socialist.

Ok, well, maybe it was CK2.

There are, obviously, a lot of balance issues which need to be addressed. Losing 1000 fighters a week in a single campaign area despite having the best doctrines, the best planes, radar, and lots of AA guns kind of breaks the air wars. The AI also seems to love piddling out weekly little amphib landings with three units which quickly get killed. It is way too easy to destroy the USSR while Japan usually collapses multiple times in China. Lastly the US AI seems to spam lots of ships and planes but rarely seems to join land wars with a meaningful amount of troops.

AA guns don't attack fighters, only other fighters do.

Paradox should try making a game where the combat system isn't horrible.

I need to go back and play more CK2. Loved the first one but got so annoyed with the stupid war terms system in 2 that I just gave up on it. Nothing like crushing an opponent who you have many claims on but not being able to press any of them because it wasn't specified in the original war terms..

I could never get into CK2 because the combat is so tedious. EU IV was only tolerable if you focused on exploration/colonization and kept your involvement in boring wars to a minimum.

If you want a decent war system you should try the Vicky line, Drake. CK is all about the stacks.

The stacks aren't even the worst part. It's having to chase down and defeat the same stack multiple times, plus the interminable sieges.

For me it's when the sieges restart. *sigh*

                                Did anyone play Victoria II?

I played the older Vicky I ages ago for some time, though never as much as the EU stuff.

There's a steam sale on until 4th july, which has this thing for five buckses. But I don't want to get heaps of games just because stuff is cheap - so is it any good? It doesn't seem to have the loads of extra DLC, so I assume it was not a huge success tho...
