I suspect most of his absurdity is a front for getting talked about and when it actually was working morphed into for getting the R nomination. I would expect he'd tone it way back to slightly right of center (but still with flair) in the general and then mainly just do what his advisers told him in office with sole intent to get re-elected. I think as long as he's in front of the cameras that's all he really cares about, basically issue agnostic (other than the issue of Trump).Comment

I think the Republican leadership basically agrees with you which is why you see Dole/etc come out more against Cruz than against Trump.
