Well everyone tonight I have managed to snatch defeat out of the Jaws ov Victory........ The Diamond aged Gavrushka with a prod of 60,000 and researching future tech is about to be over run with Darths Tanks........TANKS!!!!!! dropped from the sky by hundreds of cargo pods....... I waited and waited to attack......and he has built up and built up immense forces in cargo pods which are now descending on my capital city....... I feel ill........ I had 100 Plasma destroyers and Stealth subs about to pound his cities, whilst a sea tunnel had been built..... well enough of that...... you will all get the saves..... anyone for chess?? I have gone right off CTP!!!!

Comments: { A hugely entertaining game where mine and Darths games diverged when Darth changed government to Fascism, and I stayed Theo, My science leapt way way ahead, but would not allow me a clear opening to attack Darth - for the last FOUR sessions of this game we had enormous Naval forces just out of range of each other....I had added 30 Plasma Destroyers, 30 Stealth Subs to an already large Navy, had an almost completed sea tunnel when I started my attack.... thats when Darth dropped the bombshell and two nine stacks of units were cargo pod launched to my capital...... I had PIKEMEN defending, I pressed my attack pushing Plasma destroyers into his cities to knock out the units (mistakenly thinking his Navy was smaller than it was) and carried on building sea tunnel, I changed a few cities to produce space planes, to send some units back to help recapture my cities, Darth got booted and ended up with a trade problem (in 1902 - we have a turn by turn save someone help solve it!!PLEASE) and severe RIOTS, losing maybe 10 cities to REVOLTS in a few turns, he still managed to capture four of my cities (one of which revolted) but I recaptured them all with fusion tanks and war walkers within two turns..... at the end of the game Darth conceded - but we exchanged maps and played on a couple of turns...... and miraculoulsy trade came back AND riots stopped next turn.... But Darth was this to do with the fact we went for peace treaty???- But you were Fascist??? .. Anyway folks we have the saves- every save, catch me or darth for a copy, enquiries@iemediation.co.uk }

man what a game that was...I miss it already. I dont know why the riots suddenly started or why they suddenly stopped but they did...When they started everyone was rioting with no warning before hand. In that turn 6 of my cities revolted. I don't have an explanation for it. I also want to say thanks gav for a fantastic game and congrats with winning it

Suggestion no more 5-6 player games?
Pair up triple up but 5-6 player games rarely get finished and ping times and control are at best weak.

We had good turn out 6 people

Boney online gaming is a bit different than ai You did well hang with us for a bit and learn some tips. We share all here without reservation so a few games and you will be giving all of us a hard time

May I suggest some one on ones? Fun games to get going? Have some time today? Ping is not such a great issue with one on ones.

I play yestarday with BlackIce, I must warn every body, he is AWESOME!!!

At the end I must quit 'cos my wife arrive earlier and get up set 'cos the phone line was occuped and she can comunicate with me. She have tickets for Shrek, so I drop the game, sorry Blackice.

Blackice talk me about his secret in science and trade, but I think I can get higer science than him yet. At the end I was in modern age while he was still in reinesance age. But his powergraph was double than mine .

But thanks to the game now I identify the weakness of my own strategy. So I suggest everyone to play against him some day.

It was enjoyable and I have now got my server sorted out. In the end I went to bed about 4am Sat night but it was an experience. Like you say multiplayer is a lot different. Had A strange game on sunday four of us started playing and two guys obviously had the intention of ganging up on the strangers, so me and a guy called KO were forced iunto an alliance. The other 2 were full of bull****, but my popping up theocracy on the 3rd turn was useful along with my partner being near to me. But I was an ******* I forgot to change govt luckily my partner was a pro and pretty soon the other two ran away after some heavy defeats. KO then proceded to give me a lesson in the art of play, and he whupped my ass, we will be meeting again next sunday. Any tips? He is from Hong Kong so we are in the same (almost) time zone. Hey you were away for a long 10 minutes, merphie and I tried to play but people keep dropping out. The game with KO was my first complete game, I made a number of bad judgements, but I put them down to inexperience. gotta go now, C U next saturday.

Hey take man relax. BlackIce isnt that great! I have a fearsome LAN reputation .. Ask Nuke Boy, ! As I have crushed him 3 straight games! And I had crushed dozens of others in LAN melee's.

For me, its all about 3 things

1) Have 3 or 4 gold/monopoly cities, these arent production cities rather, they just make gold and improvements that only help gold (no temples or that BS that raises maintence costs)

2) I have 5 or 6 Production cities, these cities are all belching out units and pollution. And you will never find an expensive University or anything in these citys. Only Mills,factorys, Oil Refs, Nuclear plants, etc.... Aswell as MANY mines surrounding the city!


3)Have 1 science city with academy,university,publishing house, and many many scientists working!

at this point my science is about max 5 turns a discovery through modern age.


'one of my many secrets' Take 4 clerics and have them all soothsay a city at once...Cheaper and easier way to make it Revolt ..I piss people off like this without them knowing it!

Good news here. Looks like we finally have an ISP in Latvia, that will give you unlimited access, with cable modem. Hopefully, they get to me by end of this year . And if they do, for the price of 41USD one can stay online as much as I wish. First of all, I wonder how 41 USD compares to unlimited access in other countries. Second, I wonder will you accept me playing online games, and will the speed be enough - outcoming is 128 kbit/sec, incoming 64kbit/sec.

In the Uk, to answer your question, I pay USD 60 per month for unmetered call access down a normal phone line - Almost all countries have umetered internet time HOWEVER many countries still charge for the call itself.. When I first went on the internet about 6 years ago - my MONTHLY phone bill was around USD 200 to get on line!!

Your speed will rock us all off the planet I think!!!LOL

So then when do you wanna play?? Like me you will have to suffer to play the Americans (because of the time difference) BUT we often manage to squeeze a game in Saturdays ??

Sounds like a fairly good deal. I pay 40USD for a DSL connection. The advertised speed is 768 down and 128 up, but my tests show I get about 600 down and 90 up. Because I share the connection with another computer I get about 250 down.

The speed you posted is a bit confusing. Usually incoming is faster than or equal to outging.

Thanks Gavruska, but read it carefully. Look, the provider (Telia, Swedish) has thus far only covered Center district of Riga, while I live in the North district. I hope this will be done in 2001, but am not sure. Tried sending a little email, gets rejected. Will have to find out why.
Cheapness of this stands that I don't pay for phone. I can talk on the phone while in Internet with this, and the phone company gets no money. That's great compared to what I have now - pay to ISP by hour, and to the phone company.
As for the speed... that's what their website says, I don't know if it will truly be that. For instance, now I'm using a 56 kbit/sec modem, but download speed is around 3.5/sec, normally. However, I trust cables more.

Your deal also sounds good to me! All in all, you have better speed. Telia also offers higher speed, but that at once costs MUCH more. I'd better pay twice less, and have a little bit less of speed. And, I've messed it in the original post... incoming is 128, and outcoming is 64. Taking in account that I down more than up, I find this more than acceptable.

But I repeat, don't even expect to see me on for at least three more months. I doubt they'll get me earlier. But when I do, I'll learn!

2) How long does one turn usually take?
3) How much time is a player given for his turn?
4) Are there any Europeans playing TCP/IP? If so, it is nice. Because when playing Americans, either of us has bad time.
5) Rather confusing to me, am and pm. What time is what? I take it as am is when people tend to sleep, and pm is when they tend to be in middle of the work day. But might be different .
6) How many hours does an Internet game take to complete?

1) You play each turn simultaneously. The game ends when the last player finishes with his moves and hit the END button.
2) It depends of the slowest player of each turn
3) As long as he likes unless a time limit is set with a mod and as long as you do not make the others waiting for you to much.
4) Well, you may find some Europians here and play them...
5) AM is after midnight. PM is afternoon.
6) Not sure but I guess a little more than a single does. Unless someone is veeery slow.
7) Yes you can save it but I don't know how. Never did it before. And I don't have an idea if you can turn MP to SP but as you I doubt.
8) That may answer it someone with greater experience in MP...
9) I think when a player is creating a new MP game has the option to allow the dynamically join feature where when a player disconnects to be able to join again or someone else.

Even The Common Courtesy Of Stopping Play And Waiting For The Other Player Has To Be Stated Right Off The Top As Some Players View This As “Oh To Bad Your Civ Is Messed Up” Lol. Several Turns Can Pass And Cost You The Game So Be Wise Ask Lots Of Questions.

9. The Standard Fair Play Rule Is, If Disconnected All Play Stops And We Wait For The Disconnected Player To Return. Then We Wait Until The Player Has Viewed His Civ. And Corrected What The Ai Has Buggered.

Actually he was refering to an "ALL CAPS POST" I had been online gaming and since we use "ALL CAPS" because it is easier to read... I simply never thought about it as I do not look at the screen when I type lol.

Now since there was no way to change it other than the way it is now and of course it is not "ALL CAPS". With out typing it over of course . Office did a good job an easy job for me.

I have yet to actually be challenged bye someone who doesnt kill themselves before I invade. Usaully they build theatres and universitys and crap and end up running up there maintence costs.Doing stupid things, like building mills in every single city!
