I'm curious what his branch selection is, if he's made one yet. If it's like the Army, then OCS gets last pick and unless he really kicks ass at OCS then he'll get something very POGey like air wing MX or supply or something.

It's not Army. Nearly every Marine officer has stood on the yellow footprints at OCS, MCB Quantico. Doesn't matter if you did NROTC, you still do OCS. There's no preferred pipeline. Nor does it matter, once commissioned, how you got to that point; MOS's are distributed based on The Basic School, that all Marine officers, including Naval Academy grads, attend.

OCS is the primary source for officers in the Marine Corps. Relatively few officers come from the Naval Academy or NROTC (and NROTC do OCS, regardless).

PLC is OCS for those currently attending college who have not graduated yet. They attend either two 6-week courses over two summers or a combined 10-week course identical to OCC for college graduates:

PLC is the most popular commissioning path, with 35 percent of Marine Corps officers entering through this route. 30 percent of officers entered the Corps through OCC, 14 percent through the United States Naval Academy, 13 percent through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and eight percent through more unique routes.
So at least 78% of Marine officers are OCS commissions.

hrm. what's the over/under? what if he makes it through the whole thing but still somehow fails to become a marine?

Wait, what the hell is the point of marine option NROTC then? Also it seems really ridiculous that the marines would use OCS as the primary officer pipeline.

Hopefully you will overcome your crippling fear of guns, swimming, and driving.

If he's doing those 3 things at once, he should have fear.
