  • Did Someone Change My Default Subscription Settings?

All of a sudden I have been signed up for emails for replies to all the threads I reply to. I certainly never set this, and do not wish to. I've fixed it.

Do you have an audit trail of changes to the database here? Could you kindly find who did this, take them outside and shoot them? Thanks

That's good, for some reason the default setting wasn't email sign up, preventing all the newbees, I mean the real posters with a human brain to come back to their threads when there was a reply. It just took 1.2 seconds to fix it for 23000 users.

Sory, we don't have an audit trail of changes to the database, here. Sorry. But alternatively, I can take you outside and shot you. That's a great offer isn't it?

I'll pass thanks. Perhaps we should shoot everyone and let your chosen fictitious deity sort them out.

Probably, it's now the time to stop joking here. For some time new users had subscription and notification disabled by default. So they don't get reminders that they got a reply on their questions or problems. This is not good for Apolyton as a whole. We want to have a community here and not somewhere else. The easiest way to fix this is to enter a mySQL querry, which is available predefined.

Of course there is a trade off, on the one hand I reach those that are inactive and have it disabled. On the other hand of course I annoy those who have notifications disabled. I just came to the conclusion the benefit is bigger than the harm. I am sorry for that. I assume that those who don't like it will fix their settings again.

              People, to change the settings,

              1. Click on settings in the top right hand bar in the corner.

              2. Scroll down until you see "MY SETTINGS"

              3. Find the section that says 'my account'

              4. Go to 'General Settings'

That will take you to another screen.

Scroll down to 'Messaging and Notification'

Change the setting to -"Do not notify".

DON'T TELL EVERYONE! I'm an IT consultant...I was going to charge myself out to resolve this problem for at least 100 an hour...and then spend most of my time playing with the coffee machine anyway

You should at least have made an announcement to let everyone know, and how to turn them off.

Also, it's dodgy legal ground opting people into subscriptions when they haven't actively done it themselves, at least in the UK...

                    What is a mySQL querry?

I'm having the same problem - I'm getting notifications as if I'm subscribed to threads. I want all subscriptions turned off but they still keep coming even after I delete all of them from the subscription folder.

Seriously - if this is some kind of prank by an administrator it's a stupid one.

So . . . . tell me how to change the settings back to the WAY THAT I WANT IT?
