So I have a decent amount of stuff, mostly of the computer/book/game variety. I can't really take much of it to Sweden.
I don't think it should be thrown away.
How do I quickly and efficiently take care of this problem?
I will probably need more stuff later... obviously some things cost much more to replace (books/games).

Actually I think we are way too conservative. My house is full of old crap, decorations and semi-broken furniture I can't get rid of. I would love to throw away more of it, but my morality forbids me. I would like to make a pile of 100´s of books and start a fire. Who reads a book twice anyway?

I have mostly:
Books
Computers/electronics/etc
Video games/media/etc
Old clothes/etc
Some expensive toys (paintball/electric piano)
Board Games
I know that board games and books and old electronics and media don't have a very high resale value.
What sort of stuff that Salvation Army and Goodwill like?

I got a position in Sweden on the Ice Cube experiment.
My original plan was to defend mid Sept. Currently it seems to be mid Oct.
I don't expect it to delay again. I am finalising 4 chapters by next week, and another by the end of the month. And we had better have our final results by early Sept.

I would.. but I don't think most people would want any of my stuff.
Board games aren't well wanted by most people, for example.

The Salvation Army would like all of those. However, I'm not so sure about the electronics. But definitely the clothes, board games, and books.
The rest you could either give to friends, sell, ask family to store for you, or trash. The curb is also a good option for many things. Though, you'll be surprised what people will take and what they will leave behind.

"Capitalism ho!"

I doubt on the board games, I know people who go through thrift stores looking for good deals because they can get them for 5-10x cheaper. And for some of the games, only a few thousand people in the whole US play.
And I would probably want them when I come back.
I sort of intend to just put them in storage.
I have left behind stuff on the curb in both of my last two moves. I was surprised at what people left (including an almost brandnew bed)... and what people took.

Used beds are kind of nasty, or they at least have a stigma for many.

When I bought a house with an above-ground pool I put an ad for the pool on craigslist specifying that the buyer had to be local, and within a few days I'd gotten about three or four responses from Nigerians who were interested in buying it for more than I was asking for it but then I'd have to mail them a check for the difference. So I put it on Freecycle and within two days a redneck family stopped by and carted the thing away.

Ask a relative if they can store it for you (offer to pay them), else, you can get some storage. Doesn't sound like you need too much, so ask around and work out a contract with them since you know how long you will be there.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

i thought this thread was about throwing away weed

If you expect to want it when you return, put it in storage. Old out-of-print board games sell pretty well at gaming conventions. Salvation Army and Good Will will take almost anything.

I took down pickup truckful of stuff like that to the Goodwill. They loved it. They won't take mattresses (because of health problems) and most branches won't take bulky furniture. They had lists of stuff they really wanted, and stuff they didn't.
I took them ancient computer games, and they took it all.
