Ignore List -- WTF??

I've never really used the Ignore List feature (maybe once, long ago), so it's possible this has been true for ages without my knowing it. Still...

So when I went to the Ignore function (Settings and Options/Edit Ignore List) today, I was shocked to see 16 names on my list. All of them were names of posters I'm not familiar with.

WTF is up with that?

Could be you're just old...

Also, there was in vb2 an exploit that users could cause you to add someone to your ignore list by clicking a link... could be that.

Or, there's a bug...

Well, ignoring the fact that I'm old...

There are 16 names, all of them with join dates of 1999-2001. (FWIW, I joined in 2002.) Only two show more than a couple posts (one guy has 132, another with 30+). The 'about me' info varied (locations include Minnesota, Rio, UK, Netherlands, Jupiter). Using 'find all posts by' -- some have no matches found, others seem to be actual gamers (though nothing current, and no games that I own). Not one had any user page visits until mine.

I've left it untouched in case someone wants to see it, for bug-chasing purposes, curiosity or whatever.

I'd also be very curious whether these (or other) phantoms exist on anyone else's Ignore List. Here they are:

* Marco Polo

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. Interesting. Must be a bug, I'd suppose, if two of you have the same list. Maybe Gramphos has an idea...

Hmmm, I interpreted "exact same" to mean same names... but I suppose that is not necessarily the same meaning.

Well, it's not a general thing (only a handful of users have more than two or three users on ignore; you two have two of the top 3 counts by my measure). And, it was that way on the old forum as well, as far as I can tell (you both have similar sized lists on the old forum), if I understand the ignore list structure properly on both forums.

So... either an odd database glitch, or too much clicking on links Krill or Asher provided a while ago, or ... something else. Nothing obvious to me, though.

Hmm, never heard of the vb2 exploit.

I basically don't use the ignore list, so I have no idea how long mine has been like this. I'm capable of ignoring people all on my own.

I have no persons on my list. It's empty. I do remember a couple of those posters you have on ignore btw, Marco Polo and Titus both posted a loooong time ago on this site.

I used it a while ago to add Ben Kenobi and Agathon to people's ignore lists until Ming got mad.

Then I used it to add me to people's buddy lists and he still got mad.

There's just no pleasing him.

I have the exact same problem, although the names are all different. I sent Ming a PM about it quite some time ago when we had the new forum software.

Thanks...but that wasn't me. I know Asher did it, and maybe AC, but I only put Ben on ignore back in December (God I was so stupid not to do it any sooner...)

As I recall this happened a few times before when old threads were bumped and people reported posters being on their ignore lists that they never put there.

It has something to do with old posters whose log ins were deleted, I believe. FE, Hodad for me is on ignore (or was) as is the original MarkG login.

And v 2.0 had it also.

I suspect that it's the new ban. Instead of banning a poster, you just put him on everyone's ignore list.

I've got 9 on my Ignore List as well, and I've never added anyone to it. Not to mention that I don't recognize any of these names, and if they had PO'ed me to the point of ignoring them, I'd like to think that I'd remember.

I would like to ignore everyone on this site except for the Carnegie Mellon whiz, the neofascist student from NYU, the gay jobless consultant, and the physics virgin. Is there a bizarro ignore list that could perform this function for me?
