He collapsed at the luncheon for Congress. His seizure lasted for several minutes, apparently, and he was taken out on a stretcher.

Sen. Byrd apparently had to be taken out during this, as he was "overcome" by the incident...

Hope all is well with Senator Kennedy and Senator Byrd.

Didn't Sen. Kennedy just get through a stroke? This doesn't bode well for him.

From the NY Times live blog:

Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican of Utah, said Mr. Kennedy was conscious and smiled at him as he was taken away by paramedics.
    So that's good at least.

Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, collapsed Tuesday afternoon during a luncheon held for President Barack Obama in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

Sen. Kennedy, pictured earlier this month, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last May.
2 of 2 Paramedics were called to the scene at 2:35 p.m. ET.

Kennedy, who appeared to be suffering from a seizure, was transported to a hospital.

"Senator Kennedy had a seizure" which "lasted a while," a Republican House member told CNN.

The member said Kennedy was still experiencing seizures when he was put in a wheelchair and taken out through the Rayburn room, located to the side of Statuary Hall.

Kennedy, 76, was first elected to the Senate in 1962.

The source did not know whether President Obama saw it happening because "there was still a lot of talking" and the program was still going on - the incident happened at the end of lunch.

This source was sitting at table in front of Kennedy and said Kennedy was sitting with former Vice President Walter Mondale and Senator Daniel Inouye

This is why I didn't enter the celebrity dead pool. He would have been on my list and then I'd now be wishing him to croak it. :/

When a law suit was threatened by VW, National Lampoon ran the following retraction:

"Even if Ted Kennedy had driven a Volkswagen he wouldn't be president today."

rah, after you posted this pic, I couldn't help but remember press secretary Alfred E. Neumann

He was a cool customer, nothing got him upset and even when pressed, he would respond "What, me worry?"

Ted Kennedy is generally respected by both parties and has worked hard on many bipartisan agreements. However, the people who really hate him are conservative radio talkshow hosts (or at least their radio personas do). It's become sort of a litmus test for outing the zombies who listen to those shows based on their feelings about Ted Kennedy.

Personal experience indicates that it's a poor litmus test, then.

If he hadn't been a Kennedy, he probably would have gone to jail. A lot of people dislike him for that. It has nothing to do with his politics.

Yeah, if he had been black, he'd probably still be in jail,
But since he was a Kennedy, he gets to be a senator for life.

You don't have to be a conservative radio talk show host to hate him.

I can't understand how people can speak so highly of him knowing what he did.

Because character means absolutely nothing to people anymore. It comes down to what side they are on with no consideration of what kind of person they are. It's all around us from politics to entertainment to personal relationships.

Then again, perhaps it has always been that way.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

    Political dynasties

I don't wish him any harm, but neither would I be particularly upset if (when) he dies. I don't know enough about his political career to have much of an opinion on his, um, public service. I know he got away with some **** a long time ago.
