Even though I'm a Cal homer, I will reserve judgement on Cal until the Oregon game.

    Bumpity bump.

Some decent games this weekend. Should see some shakeup in the polls.

Wow, what's happening to the front-line Fla. ACC teams?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Not sure, but isn't it great?

As I said before, I can't believe FSU was still ranked in the first place. Anyone with a pair of functioning eyes could tell from the FSU-Miami game that both teams left much to be desired.

It's just like NC State to go out and beat our ACC frontrunners, and then lose to somebody like Akron, UNC, UVA, or Maryland.

Guynemer, I disagree. I thought both defenses looked pretty good in that FSU-UM game (UM did NOT look good against Louisville though, obviously). Both of those teams are still better than places like Rutgers, Mizzou and probably Texas Tech, who are in the polls.

I agree that I thought the defenses of Miami and FSU looked really good. But subsequent games seem to indicate that it was just crappy offense.

I could have told you that after the UM-FSU game . Remember last year it was a low scoring affair and people were trumpeting up the defenses, but in later games last season they gave up so many points, that that analysis was shown to be faulty.

Well, I watched the game and I saw very good defenses. They both have very good speed. In short, it looked like UM and FSU had both scouted each other better than usual, but the coaching staffs have fallen asleep at the wheel since then.

Regardless, the ACC has been a graveyard for football. The Bowl games were terrible last year. The recruiting classes have actually been among the best in the land, but I think there's a lot of bad coaching in the league right now.

pchang, are you an NC State fan? I don't think anybody but them really knew that they changed their QB. =)

That Evans guy is actually looking pretty good. I bet they'll still find a way to lose to teams that are far worse than FSU, though.

    Cal all the way

I'm a Cal alum. However, when I see a 1-2 team suddenly go undefeated in the ACC, I get a little interested.

Good point. The antithesis of the QB-changing theory has been demonstrated just down the road at Chapel Hill, though. We traded one interception-prone QB from Nebraska (via transfer) for an int-prone freshman. Neither QB has been allowed to throw for more than 10 yards, which is either a bad thing, or a good thing that's actually a bad thing because of interceptions. The wuffpack's success just makes me that much more angry with our coaching staff.

Drake, when I saw Dailey running, and how fast he is, I thought he'd be an excellent QB for the Tar Heels. Unfortunately, I think the dude's color-blind or something. Too many throws to the wrong team.

I should also mention that despite my previous comments, I do not disagree with Rutgers being ranked. They're a very good team, which I witnessed first hand when they beat Carolina. Missouri, I haven't seen, but I am just willing to bet that both Miami and FSU are better than them.

He makes a lot of bad decisions, which is what ended his career at Nebraska. He's got the physical tools, but just can't seem to master the defense-reading and decision-making skills needed to be a starting QB for a D-I program. It's a shame, really, as he's a hard-worker and a good kid.

My prediction is not coming to fruition.

Grandpa Troll, everyone was saying that the state of North Carolina's football teams were all terrible. Now we've got Wake Forest looking very good against Clemson, and the Wuffpack with a couple of very good games against ranked opponents. I hope I'm not jinxing Wake, but NC State isn't making us look bad anymore.

Anyway, new prediction: John Bunting is out as UNC HC after this season.

So which of the pollsters voted Auburn #2 this week after they almosy got beat by South Carolina last week?

Arkansas is about to beat Auburn 27-10.

Ouch, Minnesota loses in OT because of a crap pass interference play. Though they should have hit that extra point.

I voted Auburn down in my poll, my instinct was to vote them even lower. Arkansas can be Alabama State champs now.

In the Minnesota game, the defender got a piece of the receivers arm, and the ball was very catchable if he hadn't. I didn't think it was even that close of a call.

I jinxed Wake Forest. Clemson still looks good though. UNC could not beat Miami, which definitely should mean that Bunting can't keep his job.

Grandpa Troll, I think I read that somewhere. I'm a grandkid in a long line of huge ECU fans, and I graduated from UNC. I catch hell from all angles, but luckily we've had a couple good teams recently. I can pull for most of the NC schools except for dook, and State football. I can't forget how the Wolfpack fans crowded our stadiums a few years ago and actually outnumbered us. I still end up pulling for almost all ACC teams in basketball, though. I think we keep getting screwed when they don't put at least 6 ACC teams in the tourney.

prediction: LSU 24, FLorida 17, hot off the presses!

Drake Tungsten with enough balls to keep Auburn out of his top 10 despite them being undefeated.

Well, I did, and I don't regret it one bit. If anything, this game showed me that Arkansas is a better team than the one USC blew out at the start of the season, not that Auburn wasn't nearly as good. Auburn already proved itself in the LSU game as far as I was concerned - a contention that'll only get strengthened if LSU knocks off Florida today as I'm expecting.

Sure, Auburn won't be #2 on my list after this week, and their loss essentially solidifies (in a just world) that the Big Game this year will be a BCS title knockout game, with the winner going to Phoenix and the loser settling (settling?) for Pasadena.
