I have a CD of the demo... I'm lucky.... I'm also still debating whether or not to buy it.... it is a fantastic game, and addictive, though not as much as SMAX, but I'm not the fond of RTS... plus..... shshhhhh.... I'm absolutely horrible at it.... The computer will beat me seven times out of ten on level three difficulty or so....I'm a pacifist, and what more can I say.... The main reason I don't like it is because it doesn't give you the playing time of my TBSs.... a GalCiv, SMAX or even Civ3 game will go on for a couple days, even CtP lasts a day.... but a RoN game only lasts about an hour.... Its also the fact that the research tree doesn't seem that great to me... pretty much, it doesn't matter who you are or how many times you play, you research this then this then this... and build this then this then this.... just seems so... same compared to SMAX... mind you, if I wasn't obsessive in possesion of SMAX, I would snap it up instantly... And eBay is where I got SMAX and my second copy of SMAC.

Change the research to very long and expensive. Seriously. Spending more time in each age, etc, fleshes it out quite a bit really.

I find it very hard to beleive that someone would risk camping for that absolute last second. I beleive the seller placed or scripted that final bid since mine was only at $1. So, yes, I think eBay has shysters on it.
But, I did get a copy of Civ I for $1 + $5 shipping. Yay.
And I got a little cart for groceries for $20 including shipping. When I received the box, the postage said $15 or something close to that amount, so the person selling me the cart made very little money on it, if any.

It's also very handy if you need to be somewhere else when an auction is due to end.

To slow down the game:
Open data/rules.xml in notepad and find this line:
< ACCEL_RESEARCH value="1/1 speed
change the last '1' to the number on how much you want it to take to research (compared to default = '1')... setting it to 3 makes it take 3 times as long
In the same file go to the line:
< TECH_COST_FACTOR value="20 resources" / >
Change the 20 to how much you want it to cost (compared to default)... changing this to 40 highers the price 2xThis space is empty... or is it?

And as far as online buying goes:
I have been buying DVD's from Amazon for the past 6 months, and for now it has always worked, though I've only once bought something used...
Mostly I buy from cayman.us (I think that's the name, through Amazon)... they have always been reliable and fast (and cheap)This space is empty... or is it?
